Emtec C410 Color Mix 128 GB — Recycled Plastic, Cap That Clips On
128 GBUSB 2.0, Type-A100% recycled plastic15 MB/s read / 5 MB/s write
The Emtec C410 Color Mix is a 128 GB USB 2.0 flash drive in a body moulded from 100% recycled plastic. Emtec gives the range one colour per capacity and 128 GB is orange. The cap is removable but clips onto the back of the drive while it is in use, which is Emtec’s answer to the usual problem with caps. Published speeds are up to 15 MB/s read and 5 MB/s write.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a USB Type-A drive with no USB-C connector and no adapter in the pack, so it will not enter a phone, a tablet or a USB-C-only laptop. Be clear about the bus: this is USB 2.0. Emtec states universal compatibility with USB 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 ports, but that means it will fit and work in a newer port, not run any faster in one — the drive itself is USB 2.0 and the published 15 MB/s read and 5 MB/s write are what you get. Writing 128 GB at 5 MB/s is a job measured in hours, so fill it once and read from it. One code to watch: Emtec sells a C410 Color Mix 3.2 at 256 GB (
ECMMD256G410) which is a genuinely different drive, published at 20 MB/s read and 10 MB/s write and in a transparent finish. The name is nearly identical; the interface and the capacity are not. There is also a C410 Neon line in punchier colours, sold singly and in 2- and 3-packs — check the pack count on any listing that looks unusually cheap.Best For
✓ Bulk storage of documents, photographs and music at a low price per gigabyte
✓ Organisations that care about the recycled content of what they buy
✓ Handing out at events or in a classroom, where the drive may not come back
✓ Machines and laptops with USB-A ports, including older ones
✓ Colour-coding drives — Emtec gives each capacity its own colour
✓ A drive you fill once and mostly read from
Key Features
100% recycled plastic housing
The body is moulded entirely from recycled plastic under what Emtec calls its ECO-DESIGN programme. If procurement asks about the environmental story on a giveaway drive, this one has an answer.
A cap that clips on the back
Emtec’s own instruction is: do not lose the cap, clip it onto the back of the drive. It is a removable cap rather than a slider, but there is somewhere to put it while you work.
One colour per capacity
Emtec assigns a colour to each size across the C410 range and 128 GB is orange. Where several drives circulate in one office, that is a quick way to tell a 128 from a 32.
Wide temperature range
Rated -25 to 85 °C in both operation and storage, which is broader than most consumer flash drives publish and useful if the drive lives in a bag or a car.

Singular Expert Insight
The C410 is a capacity-and-conscience product: 128 GB, a fully recycled body, a colour that tells you the size at a glance, and a price that reflects the USB 2.0 bus underneath. Judged as storage it is slow, and honestly so — 15 MB/s read and 5 MB/s write are the numbers of a drive for carrying documents and archives, not for working off. The recycled housing and the clip-on cap are the two things that genuinely distinguish it from any other cheap stick. If you need speed at this capacity, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 drive from our USB flash drives range costs modestly more and is several times quicker. For working files rather than an archive, an external SSD is the right class of product.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want 128 GB cheaply in a fully recycled body, for an archive or for handing out, and you will mostly read from the drive rather than write to it.
Skip it if
You write to the drive regularly — 5 MB/s on a 128 GB stick is a long wait. Or you need a USB-C connector, or a modern bus.
