The equip 227308 is a 8-port Cat.5e shielded patch panel for a desk, a shelf or a small office where there is no rack. It carries 8 RJ45 ports rated Cat.5e Class D up to 100 MHz in a shielded, light grey steel box that stands on a desk, with dual IDC terminations for LSA and 110 punch-down tools. In practice every cable from the wall outlets is terminated once at the back and stays put, while short patch cords at the front connect the ports to your switch — so moving a desk or a phone is a one-cable change at the panel, not new cabling.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Check before buying: It is a desktop unit, not a rack panel — there are no 19″ or 10″ rack ears. Shielding only helps with shielded cable (F/UTP, S/FTP) whose shield is terminated and the panel earthed; with UTP cable it works as a normal panel. Not sure it suits your cabinet or cable? Can I mount it in a rack?
No. It is a desktop panel for a desk, a shelf or a small office where there is no rack. It stands on a desk or shelf. If you have a 19-inch or 10-inch cabinet, ask us for the matching rack panel.
What tool do I need to terminate it?
A punch-down tool. equip states the dual IDC connectors work with both LSA (Krone) and 110 tools, so either type does the job. No tool is included.
Do I need shielded cable?
To benefit from the shielding, yes: use shielded cable (F/UTP or S/FTP), terminate the shield properly and earth the panel. With ordinary UTP cable it still works, but the shielding adds nothing.
Is it fast enough for my network?
It is rated Class D, up to 100 MHz for 10/100Base-T and 1GBase-T (Gigabit). The whole link — cable, outlets, patch cords — must be at least the same category to reach that speed. For 10 Gigabit over longer runs, the full link must be Cat6A.
