Equip OM3 LC to SC Duplex Multimode Fibre Patch Cord, 5 m
OM3 MultimodeLC → SCDuplex · 5 mLSZH
The Equip 255315 is a 5 m duplex multimode fibre optic patch cord (50/125 µm, OM3) with an LC connector on one end and an SC connector on the other, for connecting switches, transceivers, patch panels and servers and storage in multimode installations.
OM3 is the laser-optimised multimode grade for 10G short reach: IEEE 802.3 specifies 10GBASE-SR for up to 300 m on OM3 (and 40G/100G SR4 for up to 100 m), so at patch-cord length the fibre is never the bottleneck.
Before you order: Multimode only: the transceivers and any patch panels on the link must be 50/125 µm multimode (multimode short-reach optics (SR, SX, SR4, SWDM) running at 850 nm). This cord will not work with singlemode LR/LX optics or singlemode cabling.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Equip OM3 LC to SC duplex fibre patch cord, 5 m
- Measurement protocol (included with each cable by the manufacturer)
What It Means in Practice
- LC — the small-form-factor latch connector used on SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and QSFP transceivers and on most current switches and patch panels
- SC — the larger square push-pull connector found on many patch panels, media converters, FTTH ONTs and older switch optics
- Duplex means two fibres in one cord — one transmits, one receives — the normal format for a switch-to-switch, switch-to-server or switch-to-patch-panel link.
- At 5 m it suits runs between neighbouring racks or from a patch panel to equipment across the room.
- LSZH jacket: low smoke and zero halogen if it ever burns, which is what most offices, server rooms and public buildings ask for indoors.
- If a new duplex link stays down, the most common cause is crossed transmit/receive — swap the two fibres at one end and test again. Also check that both transceivers are the same type and wavelength.
What Will Not Work
- Singlemode transceivers (LR, LX, ER, BiDi singlemode) and OS1/OS2 singlemode cabling — multimode and singlemode fibre cannot be mixed on one link.
- Legacy 62.5/125 µm (OM1) cabling — the core size differs, so mixing it with this 50/125 µm cord adds large loss.
- Ports with a different connector: this cord needs an LC port at one end and an SC port at the other. For any other combination choose a different cord rather than adding adapters to the link.
- Copper RJ45 ports — a fibre cord needs an optical port, an SFP/SFP+ transceiver or a media converter at each end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Before ordering a fibre patch cord, check four things at both ends: multimode grade, connector type (LC / SC), polish (PC/UPC or APC) and duplex or simplex. This Equip cord is multimode OM3, LC to SC, duplex, 5 m. If you are planning the active side as well, see our switches with SFP fibre ports and pick the transceivers to match the fibre.
✓ Buy it if your equipment has LC at one end and SC at the other, the link is multimode and 5 m covers the route with some slack.
✕ Skip it if your optics are singlemode LR/LX, your site still runs OM1 62.5/125 µm, your ports use a different connector, or you need a different length.
→ Also consider the same cord in other lengths, OM4 or OM5 for higher-speed multimode links, and fibre patch panels or couplers for structured cabling — ask us and we will match them to this cord.
Not sure it fits? Send us the model of your switch, transceiver or patch panel and we will confirm connector, polish and fibre type before you order.
