equip OM3 LC to ST Duplex Fiber Patch Cable, 0.5 m

OM3 MultimodeLC – ST0.5 mDuplex · LSZH

The equip 255219 is a 0.5 m OM3 multimode duplex fibre patch cable with LC and ST connectors, made for short-reach multimode links between switches, servers, storage and patch panels.

It uses OM3 laser-optimised multimode 50/125 µm fibre in a LSZH jacket, colour-coded aqua so the fibre type is recognisable in the rack. Each cable comes with a measurement protocol.

Before you order: Match the fibre type of your transceivers: this is OM3 multimode for SR/SX optics. Single-mode (LR/LX) optics need an OS2 cord.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × LC to ST fibre optic patch cable
  • Measurement protocol for the cable

What It Means in Practice

  • Under IEEE 802.3, OM3 carries 10GBASE-SR up to 300 m and 25GBASE-SR up to 70 m — a patch cord is only a small part of that budget.
  • Connectors: LC on one end, ST on the other — a hybrid cord for joining LC ports to ST ports. LC: LC (small-form-factor latch connector, used on SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and most duplex QSFP optics); ST: ST (round bayonet connector, found on legacy patch panels and older campus or industrial equipment).
  • Length: a short 0.5 m run is meant for patching inside the same rack — panel to switch or switch to switch.
  • If the link stays dark, the usual cause is polarity (transmit to transmit): swap the two legs at one end.
  • LSZH jacket: low smoke and zero halogen when exposed to fire — the jacket normally required in offices, data rooms and public buildings.

What Will Not Work

  • Single-mode optics (10GBASE-LR, 1000BASE-LX, BiDi LR, GPON) — they need OS2 single-mode fibre; a multimode cord will not give a reliable link.
  • Ports other than LC and ST — the ends do not fit other connector types without a hybrid cord or adapter; check both ends of your link before ordering.
  • Single-fibre BiDi optics with a simplex port — they take one fibre; use a simplex cord there.
  • RJ45/copper ports — this cable carries light, so both ends need fibre ports or optical transceivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with my SFP+ or SFP28 module?
Yes, if the module is a multimode SR type with LC or ST ports (SFP/SFP+/SFP28 optics are LC). The module label shows SR/SX for multimode; LR/LX modules need single-mode fibre instead.
Can I mix OM3, OM4 and OM5 in one link?
They connect physically and work together at 850 nm, but the whole link performs to the lowest grade in it. Keep the same type end to end when you need the full reach.
Do I need to clean the connectors?
Keep the dust caps on until you plug in, and clean the end faces with a fibre cleaning pen or cassette if the cord has been unplugged in a dusty room. Dirty end faces are the most common cause of fibre link faults.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Most fibre problems we see are mismatches, not faulty cables: multimode on a single-mode optic, UPC into an APC socket, or LC ordered for an SC panel. Check the label on your transceiver and the connector on your panel, then pick fibre type, connectors and length to match. For the active side, see our switches with SFP ports.
✓ Buy it if you need a 0.5 m OM3 LC to ST duplex link for SR/SX optics.
✕ Skip it if your transceivers are single-mode (LR/LX), your ports are not LC/ST.
→ Also consider The same type of cord in a different length or connector combination, or SFP/SFP+ transceivers matching the fibre — tell us your equipment and we will suggest the exact code.
Not sure it fits your setup? Send us the model of your rack, switch or device and we will check compatibility before you order.
