The Equip 254235 is a 5 m duplex OS2 single-mode fiber optic patch cable with LC connectors on one end and ST on the other, built on 9/125 µm fiber with ceramic ferrules and an LSZH jacket — for connecting modern LC-port equipment to legacy ST patch panels and devices.
OS2 is single-mode fiber: a 9 µm core that carries light over long distances, normally with 1310 nm or 1550 nm transceivers (LX/LR-type optics). It works only with single-mode optics and single-mode infrastructure — the yellow jacket is the usual visual cue.
Connectors: LC (small form factor — the connector of SFP/SFP+ and most duplex transceivers) and ST (round bayonet twist-lock — legacy equipment and older patch panels).
Before you order: Single-mode only — the transceivers at both ends and any patch panel in the link must be single-mode (OS1/OS2, 9/125 µm). Check that the ports are LC and ST.

What It Means in Practice
- Duplex = two fibers in one cable: one transmits, one receives. One cable connects one duplex port to one duplex port.
- 5 m reaches between neighbouring cabinets or from a panel to equipment a few metres away.
- Hybrid cable: it adapts directly between LC and ST ports, so you do not need extra adapters (each extra mated connection adds loss).
- LSZH jacket: low smoke, zero halogen — the usual requirement for cabling in offices, server rooms and public buildings.
What Will Not Work
- Multimode optics (SR, 850 nm) or multimode panels — single-mode and multimode fiber cannot be mixed in one link.
- Copper RJ45 ports — fiber needs an optical transceiver (SFP module) or a fiber port on the device.
- Single-fiber BiDi transceivers or simplex-only ports — this is a duplex (two-fiber) cable.
- SC ports — this cable is LC to ST; check the port at both ends before ordering.

Most fiber problems we see are not the cable but a mismatch: single-mode cable on multimode optics, an LC cable where the panel is SC, or OM1 mixed into a 50 µm link.
