Equip 119038 VGA to HDMI Adapter with Audio

VGA → HDMI1080p @ 60 Hz3.5 mm audio + USB power

The Equip 119038 is an active VGA to HDMI converter that turns the analogue output of a PC or laptop into a digital HDMI signal at up to 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz. It lets older computers with only a VGA port drive a modern HDMI TV, monitor or projector.

A 3.5 mm plug picks up sound from the computer’s headphone or line-out and embeds it into the HDMI output, while a USB-A lead powers the conversion electronics; both cables are included.

Compatibility note: This is a one-way converter: VGA in, HDMI out — it cannot connect an HDMI laptop to a VGA projector. It must be powered from a USB-A port (no power, no picture), and sound only reaches the HDMI output when the 3.5 mm plug is connected to the source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Equip 119038 connect an HDMI laptop to a VGA projector?
No. The 119038 converts in one direction only, from a VGA source to an HDMI display. For an HDMI source and a VGA screen you need an HDMI to VGA adapter instead.
Does the Equip 119038 need drivers or a separate power supply?
No drivers are needed — the conversion happens in the adapter. It draws power from any USB-A port on the computer or from a USB phone charger through the included USB lead.
Singular Expert Insight
The 119038 is the practical way to keep an older desktop, industrial PC or projector-era laptop in service with today’s HDMI-only TVs and PC monitors. Audio embedding and 1080p60 output cover presentations and office work well. Keep expectations realistic: the adapter digitises the analogue VGA signal, so the image is only as sharp as the source’s VGA output and it does not upscale beyond the input resolution.
✓ Buy it if your PC or laptop only has VGA and the display only has HDMI.
✕ Skip it if your source already has HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C video — a direct cable is simpler.
→ Also consider a direct HDMI cable if the source has an HDMI port.
