Ricoh fi-7480: A3-capable departmental scanner for daily batches of up to 24,000 pages
80 ppm / 160 ipm landscapeA3 originals100-sheet ADF24,000 sheets per day
The Ricoh fi-7480 (formerly Fujitsu fi-7480) is a departmental A3 duplex document scanner with a 100-sheet ADF, rated at 65 ppm / 130 ipm for A4 portrait and 80 ppm / 160 ipm landscape, intended for accounts, HR, legal and records departments that scan large daily batches including A3 sheets. It accepts paper from 27 to 413 g/m² and plastic cards up to 1.4 mm, and Ricoh rates it for 24,000 sheets per day. The desktop body measures 380 x 209 mm and weighs 7.6 kg, so it fits on a normal desk while handling volumes that small office scanners cannot sustain. Two CCD sensors capture both sides of each page in a single pass, and PaperStream IP automatically cleans images by straightening skewed pages, removing blank pages and dropping background patterns. The scanner connects by USB 3.0 to a Windows or Linux capture PC, and PaperStream Capture lets you set batch profiles with barcode or patch-code separation so large jobs are split into files automatically. Typical installations are month-end invoice runs, personnel file digitisation and incoming mail scanning, where A3 statements and A4 letters arrive mixed. If you are replacing an older A3 departmental scanner, the fi-7480 usually slots into the same capture workflow, because PaperStream IP supports the standard TWAIN and ISIS interfaces used by most document management and capture applications. The output stacker collects scanned originals neatly in order, which saves time when files must be returned to their folders.
Before you order: USB 3.0 only, with drivers for Windows, Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu): there is no network port and no macOS support.
What's in the Box
- Ricoh fi-7480 scanner
- ADF paper chute
- AC adapter and AC cable
- USB cable
- Setup DVD-ROM with PaperStream IP driver and PaperStream Capture
What It Means in Practice
- A 100-page duplex batch is scanned in under a minute at 300 dpi, front and back.
- A3 spreadsheets, drawings and folded statements go through the same feeder as A4 invoices.
- Long documents up to 5,588 mm can be fed for continuous forms and plans.
- Ultrasonic multifeed detection protects against missing pages in thick batches.
- An optional post imprinter (PA03710-D401) stamps a counter or date on each page for audit purposes. Paper from 27 to 413 g/m² and up to 1.4 mm cards can be mixed in a batch without changing settings.
What Will Not Work
- There is no flatbed for books or fragile originals.
- There is no Ethernet or Wi-Fi; it connects to one PC by USB.
- Mac computers are not supported.
- Originals larger than 304.8 x 431.8 mm do not fit.
- It is oversized for a single user scanning a few hundred pages per week; a smaller A4 scanner costs less.
Key Features
A3 in a desktop body
Full A3 support in a scanner that weighs 7.6 kg, instead of a heavy production machine.
High daily duty
24,000 sheets per day leaves headroom for month-end peaks in finance and records departments.
PaperStream software
Automatic image clean-up, blank page removal and barcode or patch-code separation reduce manual sorting.
Paper protection
Ultrasonic multifeed detection and paper protection functions stop the scanner before a double feed or crumpled page causes damage or a missed image.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the fi-7480 and the fi-7460?
They share the same body, feeder and A3 support. The fi-7480 is faster (65 ppm vs 50 ppm A4 portrait) and rated for 24,000 instead of 18,000 sheets per day. Check that the order shows PA03710-B001 for the fi-7480.
Can it scan straight into our document management system?
PaperStream IP is a standard TWAIN/ISIS driver supported by most DMS and capture applications. Tell us which system you use and we check compatibility.
Which consumables will I need?
The pick and brake rollers are sold as a kit rated for about 400,000 scans, plus cleaning wipes. The same kit fits the fi-7460, which helps if you run both models.
The unit I receive says Fujitsu, not Ricoh. Is that a different scanner?
No. Fujitsu's scanner business (PFU) is now part of Ricoh, and part number PA03710-B001 has been sold under both badges. A Fujitsu-badged and a Ricoh-badged fi-7480 are the same scanner and use the same drivers, PaperStream software and consumables, so either label is fine.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The fi-7480 is the workhorse we recommend when a department scans thousands of pages a day and some of them are A3. If your volume is lower, the fi-7460 gives the same paper handling for less money. Ask us to quote roller kits with the scanner so the department does not stop at the first service interval.
✓ Buy it if Buy it for a department that scans heavy daily batches including A3 on one dedicated PC.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if you need a flatbed or network sharing. For shared network use, the fi-7300NX is the better fit, although it is A4 only.
→ Also consider Also consider the Ricoh fi-7460, the same scanner at 50 ppm for lower volumes.
