The Ricoh ScanSnap iX100 (formerly Fujitsu ScanSnap iX100) is a portable, battery-powered sheet-fed scanner weighing 400 g that scans an A4 page in about 5.2 seconds and sends it over Wi-Fi to a smartphone, tablet or computer, made for sales staff, consultants, auditors and anyone who collects paperwork away from the office. It charges and connects by USB, so there is no power adapter to carry, and its built-in battery covers up to 260 scans per charge according to Ricoh. Pages are fed one at a time, either straight through for thick items such as cards or with a U-turn so the scan comes back out of the front on a crowded desk. With the ScanSnap Home software on Windows or macOS, scans are automatically named, sorted by document type and saved as searchable PDF or JPEG. Receipts, business cards and documents are recognised and stored in the right place, and the mobile app lets you review and share scans from a phone straight after scanning. Because pages are fed one at a time, it is best for a few documents per session rather than full files. It is the scanner for people who would otherwise photograph documents with a phone: the pages come out flat, evenly lit and correctly sized, and text is readable for OCR.
