GIGABYTE B550 X GAMING — AMD B550 ATX Motherboard for Socket AM4

Socket AM4 · AMD B5504× DDR4 up to 128GB2× M.2 + 4× SATA10-phase 60A DrMOS VRM

The GIGABYTE B550 X GAMING is an ATX motherboard for AMD Socket AM4 processors on the B550 chipset, with four DDR4 slots taking up to 128 GB, a PCIe 4.0 x16 graphics slot from the CPU and two M.2 slots. It belongs to GIGABYTE’s 2026 B550 X series — a genuine refresh of the AM4 platform rather than old stock, with a 10-phase 60A DrMOS power design, a redesigned VRM heatsink, a Realtek 2.5GbE LAN controller and screwless PCIe and M.2 EZ-Latch mounting. GIGABYTE lists support for Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 and 3000 G-Series processors. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a Socket AM4, DDR4 board despite the modern feature set — it does not take Ryzen 7000 or 9000 processors and it does not take DDR5. GIGABYTE’s published CPU list is Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 Series and 3000 G-Series; Ryzen 1000 and 2000 are not supported. The HDMI and DisplayPort outputs work only with a G-Series APU — a Ryzen 5000 or 3000 non-G chip has no integrated graphics, so a discrete card is required. Only one of the two M.2 slots has a thermal guard; a second NVMe drive needs its own heatsink if you want one. This model has no wireless: GIGABYTE publishes no Wi-Fi module and no Bluetooth version for it, so networking is wired 2.5GbE only. GIGABYTE’s own rear-panel list still shows two antenna connectors, carried over from the shared I/O layout with the WIFI7 version — treat that as a page artefact rather than a wireless feature, and choose the B550 X GAMING WIFI7 if you need Wi-Fi. GIGABYTE does not publish a package-contents list for this board.

Best For

✓ AM4 upgrades and rebuilds on Ryzen 5000 or 3000
✓ Ryzen 5800X3D and 5700X3D gaming systems
✓ Builds that reuse an existing DDR4 memory kit
✓ Value-focused gaming PCs with a PCIe 4.0 graphics card
✓ Wired networks where Wi-Fi adds nothing to the build
✓ Cases with an optical S/PDIF audio requirement

Key Features

10-phase 60A DrMOS power design
Eight VCORE and two SOC phases of 60A DrMOS, with a redesigned VRM heatsink GIGABYTE says has four times the cooling surface area and 5 W/mK thermal pads. GIGABYTE claims the board runs up to 20 °C cooler than general PowerPak designs when paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

PCIe 4.0 graphics and PCIe 4.0 M.2
The primary x16 slot runs at PCIe 4.0 x16 from a Ryzen 5000 or 3000 processor, and the CPU-connected M.2 slot supports PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe drives as well as SATA M.2. The second M.2 slot runs at PCIe 3.0 x4 from the chipset.

2.5GbE wired networking with optical audio out
A Realtek 2.5GbE controller gives two and a half times gigabit throughput to a modern switch or NAS, and the rear panel carries an optical S/PDIF Out alongside the analogue jacks for a digital connection to an AV receiver or soundbar.

Q-Flash Plus and screwless mounting
A dedicated Q-Flash Plus button updates the BIOS with no CPU, memory or graphics card installed — useful on an older AM4 board and a newer CPU. PCIe EZ-Latch, M.2 EZ-Latch Plus and M.2 EZ-Latch Click make the graphics card, the SSD and its heatsink tool-free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this board take Ryzen 7000 or 9000 processors?
No. It is a Socket AM4 board with DDR4 memory. Ryzen 7000 and 9000 are AM5 processors that need DDR5. GIGABYTE lists support here for Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 Series and 3000 G-Series — which includes the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 7 5700X3D.
Is it suitable for a gaming build in 2026?
On the AM4 platform, yes. The PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot mean a current graphics card and NVMe drive run at full speed, and the 10-phase 60A DrMOS VRM is specified for the 5800X3D, which remains one of the best value gaming CPUs available. What you do not get is an upgrade path to Ryzen 7000 or 9000.
What is the difference between this and the B550 X GAMING WIFI7?
Wireless, and nothing else that GIGABYTE publishes. The WIFI7 version adds a Realtek RTL8922AE Wi-Fi 7 module with Bluetooth 5.4 and 2T2R antennas. Board layout, VRM, memory support, PCIe slots, M.2 slots, 2.5GbE LAN and audio are identical, so the price difference is the wireless module.
What do I need to know before buying the B550 X GAMING?
It is AM4 and DDR4, so plan the CPU and memory accordingly. Video outputs only work with a G-Series APU. Only one of the two M.2 slots has a heatsink. And GIGABYTE does not publish a box-contents list for this board, so confirm the accessories with us if the cable count matters.
Singular Expert Insight
GIGABYTE’s 2026 B550 X series is an unusual thing: a genuine new-design refresh of a socket AMD stopped launching CPUs for. The point of it is the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 5700X3D, which remain excellent gaming processors, and buyers who already own a DDR4 kit and do not want to replace CPU, board and memory at once. GIGABYTE has specified accordingly — a 10-phase 60A DrMOS VRM with a heatsink it claims runs 20 °C cooler than typical designs on a 5800X3D, PCIe 4.0 on both the graphics slot and the CPU M.2 slot, 2.5GbE, and screwless EZ-Latch mounting throughout. This is the wired version of the B550 X GAMING. GIGABYTE publishes no wireless module for it, and the only reason to choose the WIFI7 sibling is Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4 — everything else on the two boards is the same, right down to the optical S/PDIF output that the AORUS and EAGLE models in the range do without. Two things to be honest about. GIGABYTE publishes no maximum XMP memory frequency for these boards, only the 3200 MT/s JEDEC list, and it publishes no box contents at all, so we have not printed either. And this is the end of the AM4 road: there is no path from here to Ryzen 9000. If you want that path, an AM5 B650 or B850 board with DDR5 is the buy instead. If you are building around this one, our DDR4 memory and graphics cards pages cover the parts that decide what it actually does.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You are building or rebuilding on AM4 with a Ryzen 5000 or 3000 processor — a 5800X3D or 5700X3D especially — you already have or want DDR4 memory, and you want PCIe 4.0 graphics and NVMe on a board with a properly specified 60A DrMOS VRM and 2.5GbE. You use wired networking and see no reason to pay for a wireless module.

Skip it if

You want a current platform with an upgrade path — Ryzen 7000 and 9000 need an AM5 board and DDR5. Skip it too if you are pairing it with a non-G Ryzen and expected onboard video, or if you need heatsinks on both M.2 slots. Skip it if you need Wi-Fi or Bluetooth — the B550 X GAMING WIFI7 is the same board with the module fitted.

Also consider

GIGABYTE B550 X GAMING WIFI7 — the identical board with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4; B550M X AORUS ELITE WIFI7 if you need micro-ATX and an ALC1220 codec; B550 X EAGLE WIFI6E for a lower wireless tier; or an AM5 B650 or B850 board with DDR5 if you want an upgrade path beyond Ryzen 5000.
