This is a Socket AM4, DDR4 board despite the modern feature set — it does not take Ryzen 7000 or 9000 processors and it does not take DDR5. GIGABYTE’s published CPU list is Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 Series and 3000 G-Series; Ryzen 1000 and 2000 are not supported. The HDMI and DisplayPort outputs work only with a G-Series APU — a Ryzen 5000 or 3000 non-G chip has no integrated graphics, so a discrete card is required. Only one of the two M.2 slots has a thermal guard; a second NVMe drive needs its own heatsink if you want one. This model has no wireless: GIGABYTE publishes no Wi-Fi module and no Bluetooth version for it, and unlike the plain B550 X GAMING its rear-panel list correctly shows no antenna connectors either — networking is wired 2.5GbE only. Choose the B550M X AORUS ELITE WIFI7 if you need Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. This is a micro-ATX board (24.4 × 24.4 cm) with only two expansion slots and no x1 slots. The M.2 slots take shorter modules than the ATX boards in this range: M2A_CPU accepts 2580 and 2280 only, M2B_SB accepts 2280 only, so a 22110 drive will not fit. All rear Type-A ports are USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) — there is no 10 Gbps rear port. GIGABYTE also publishes no M.2 thermal guard for this model, although it does for the WIFI7 version. GIGABYTE does not publish a package-contents list for this board.

GIGABYTE’s 2026 B550 X series is an unusual thing: a genuine new-design refresh of a socket AMD stopped launching CPUs for. The point of it is the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 5700X3D, which remain excellent gaming processors, and buyers who already own a DDR4 kit and do not want to replace CPU, board and memory at once. GIGABYTE has specified accordingly — a 10-phase 60A DrMOS VRM with a heatsink it claims runs 20 °C cooler than typical designs on a 5800X3D, PCIe 4.0 on both the graphics slot and the CPU M.2 slot, 2.5GbE, and screwless EZ-Latch mounting throughout. Micro-ATX changes the trade-offs in ways worth reading before you order. You get the ALC1220 codec that the ATX boards in this range do not publish. You give up the x1 slots, two fan headers, the optical S/PDIF output, the 10 Gbps rear USB port and support for 22110-length M.2 drives. GIGABYTE also publishes no M.2 thermal guard for this particular board, while it does for the WIFI7 version — we report that gap rather than assume the heatsink is there. Two things to be honest about. GIGABYTE publishes no maximum XMP memory frequency for these boards, only the 3200 MT/s JEDEC list, and it publishes no box contents at all, so we have not printed either. And this is the end of the AM4 road: there is no path from here to Ryzen 9000. If you want that path, an AM5 B650 or B850 board with DDR5 is the buy instead.
