Good Connections OM5 Multimode Fiber Patch Cable, LC/UPC to SC/UPC, Duplex, 2 m
OM5 · 50/125 µmLC/UPC ↔ SC/UPCDuplex2 m
The Good Connections LW-802LS5 is a 2 m duplex OM5 multimode fibre patch cable with LC/UPC on one end and SC/UPC on the other, made for short-reach 850 nm links today and SWDM-ready multimode links.
The cable uses an LSZH jacket with a 3.0 mm outer diameter in lime green, the colour reserved for OM5, so it is easy to tell apart in a busy rack. The duplex clip can be removed to swap polarity (A/B) on site, so a crossed link can be corrected without a new cable. Every cable is tested after assembly and ships with its own measurement report.
Before you order: The two ends are different: LC on one side, SC on the other. Check the port type on both devices (most SFP/SFP+ modules are LC; many older panels are SC) and make sure the fibre type matches — OM5 multimode works with 850 nm short-reach (SR/SX) multimode optics only.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Good Connections OM5 duplex fibre patch cable, 2 m, LC/UPC – SC/UPC
- Dust caps fitted on every connector
- Individual test report for this cable
- Transceivers, couplers and patch panels are not included
What It Means in Practice
- Two fibres in one cable: one transmits, one receives — the normal setup for SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and most media converters.
- At 2 m it is a rack or desk-side jumper: switch to patch panel, server to top-of-rack switch, or media converter to wall outlet.
- OM5 is laser-optimised 50/125 µm multimode for 850 nm SR optics (10GBASE-SR, 25GBASE-SR, 8/16/32G FC SW) and, as a wideband fibre, for SWDM optics in the 850–950 nm range; it is backward compatible with OM3/OM4.
- Respect the minimum bend radius (7.5 mm): route the cable in gentle loops and do not pinch it in rack doors or cable ties.
- Keep the connectors covered until the moment of connection and clean the end-faces if a link shows high loss — dirt is the most common cause.
What Will Not Work
- Singlemode LR/LX/ER transceivers (1310/1550 nm) — they need OS2 singlemode cable.
- Ports of another connector type (ST, MPO/MTP, E2000) without the right hybrid cable or adapter.
- Permanent in-wall or outdoor installation — this is a patch cable for racks, desks and equipment rooms.

Frequently Asked Questions
The link does not come up — is the cable faulty?
Most often the polarity is crossed. Open the duplex clip and swap the two connectors at one end (A↔B), then try again.
Can I use OM5 with my existing OM3 cabling?
Yes, OM3, OM4 and OM5 are all 50/125 µm and mate with each other; the link performs to the level of the lowest grade in the path.
Which transceivers go with this cable?
Multimode 850 nm optics: for example 1000BASE-SX, 10GBASE-SR or 25GBASE-SR SFP modules, or 8/16/32G FC short-wave optics. Both ends must use the same standard.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
OM5 costs a little more than OM4 and only pays off if you plan SWDM optics; for plain 10/25G SR, OM4 does the same job. Match three things before ordering: fibre type (OM5), connector at each end (LC/UPC / SC/UPC) and polish. Typical partners are
switches with SFP/SFP+ ports and the matching transceivers.
✓ Buy it if your ports are LC on one side and SC on the other and the link is OM5.
✕ Skip it if your transceivers are singlemode LR/LX — order OS2 instead.
→ Also consider the same cable in other lengths, or the LC-LC version if both ends are LC.
