Jabra Engage 55 SE Convertible — secure DECT wireless for the desk, with the Jabra Link 400a in the box

Up to 9 hours talk timeUp to 150 m DECT range21 g on the headCharging stand included

The Jabra Engage 55 SE (9655-455-111) is a DECT wireless office headset for computer telephony, supplied as a convertible headset worn three ways — headband, neckband or ear-hook with the Jabra Link 400a USB-A adapter in the box. This is the Certified for Microsoft Teams build. It is made for open-plan offices and contact centres where many wireless headsets share the same air: the DECT link runs in the 1880–1900 MHz band, goes beyond DECT Security Step C and adds FIPS-approved 256-bit encryption, so it stays clean where crowded 2.4 GHz does not. Plug one small adapter into the computer and you can walk up to 150 m from the desk in line of sight with the call still on your head. A built-in busylight turns red by itself on a call.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a computer headset, not a desk-phone headset. Jabra publishes no desk-phone connection for the Engage 55 SE — it ships with the Jabra Link 400a USB DECT adapter and nothing else. If you also need to plug into a desk telephone, the model with a base station is the Engage 65 SE. The adapter port is fixed by the order code: 9655-455-111 is the USB-A build, so on a machine with only the other port you will need a hub or a port adapter — the dongle in the box cannot be swapped. This is the Microsoft Teams certified build; the UC build is a different order code with different adapter firmware. And the noise cancelling here is on the microphone: it keeps your background noise out of the call. There is no active noise cancelling in the earcup, so it does not quieten the room for you.

Best For

✓ Open-plan offices running several DECT headsets side by side
✓ Contact centre and customer service desks on long call shifts
✓ People who take calls while walking to a printer or a meeting room
✓ Softphone users on Teams, Zoom, Webex, Meet or a browser dialler
✓ Teams that want a visible busylight on every desk
✓ Hot-desking, where the headset docks and charges between shifts
✓ Sites where 2.4 GHz is already crowded by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
✓ Buyers standardising one wearing style across a whole floor

Key Features

Secure DECT, not Bluetooth
The link runs in the 1880–1900 MHz DECT band, beyond DECT Security Step C, with FIPS-approved algorithms for key generation, payload encryption and authentication. It does not compete with Wi-Fi and phones for 2.4 GHz air, which is why dense offices standardise on it.

Walk up to 150 m from the desk
Jabra publishes a range of up to 150 m (490 ft) in line of sight. Walls and floors shorten that in practice, but it covers a floor plate comfortably, so you can leave the desk mid-call and keep talking.

Busylight people can actually see
An integrated red busylight switches on by itself when a call starts, and can be toggled by hand for focus time. Switching it off is also how you reach the full published talk time.

Noise-cancelling mic and hearing protection
The 1 ecm uni-directional mic keeps office noise out of what the far end hears. On the listening side, Jabra PeakStop, SafeTone 2.0, EU Noise at Work and G616 guard against sudden acoustic shocks across a full shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I plug this into my desk telephone?
No. Jabra publishes no desk-phone connection for the Engage 55 SE — everything runs through the Jabra Link 400a adapter into a computer. If you need one headset covering both a desk phone and a computer, that is the Jabra Engage 65 SE, which comes with a base station and a telephone cable. Tell us which desk phone you have and we will check it before you order.
Does it cancel the noise around me?
Not for you. The noise cancelling is on the microphone: it keeps typing and office hum out of what your caller hears. There is no active noise cancellation in the earcup, so the room still sounds like the room. If you want ANC for yourself, look at a Bluetooth model such as the Evolve2 65 Flex or Evolve2 75.
What if my laptop only has the other USB port?
The adapter in this box is USB-A and cannot be exchanged for the other type. Use a USB hub or a port adapter, or order the sibling code that ships the other adapter. Send us your laptop model and we will tell you which code fits.
How many of these can run in the same room?
This is what DECT is for. Each headset pairs to its own Link 400 adapter and the band is shared cleanly, which is why call centres run dozens of Engage units together. One Link 400 can also take up to three extra Engage headsets for a conference call, four in total.
Singular Expert Insight
Three things decide which Engage 55 SE code you need, and all three are fixed at the factory: the wearing style, the USB port of the adapter, and UC against Microsoft Teams. This is the Convertible, USB-A, MS Teams article — 9655-455-111. One digit wrong and you get a working headset that is not the one your rollout standardised on, so if you are buying more than a handful, send us the list and we will check the codes against your estate first. The other call to make before ordering is DECT against Bluetooth. If people stay near the desk and want the room quietened for them, an ANC Bluetooth model is the better buy, and those sit beside this one in Office & VoIP Headsets. If people leave the desk mid-call and the office is crowded with wireless, DECT wins on range and reliability, and this is the model. Personal listening away from calls is a different job, covered in Headphones.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You take calls on a computer softphone all day, you want to walk away from the desk without dropping the call, and your office already has too much on 2.4 GHz. Up to 9 hours of talk time covers a shift, the charging stand in the box handles the rest, and at 21 g the convertible fit stays comfortable through it.

Skip it if

You need the headset to answer a desk telephone — this one cannot, and the Engage 65 SE is the model that can. Skip it too if what you want is quiet for yourself: there is no active noise cancellation here, only a noise-cancelling microphone. And skip it if you have no USB-A port free, unless you are happy running a hub.

Also consider

Jabra Engage 65 SE if you need a base station with desk-phone and computer together. Jabra Evolve2 75 or Evolve2 65 Flex for Bluetooth with real active noise cancellation and a headset that folds for travel. The sibling Engage 55 SE codes give you the same headset in another wearing style, the other USB port, or the other certification.
