Honeywell Xenon XP 1950g HD - High Density 2D Handheld Scanner, USB Kit, Black
High Density 2DUSB kitOCR + Digimarc5-year term
The Honeywell Xenon XP 1950g HD is a corded 2D area-imager handheld scanner with high-density (HD) optics that reads very small codes down to 3 mil, for electronics, pharmacy, laboratory and retail counters where labels are tiny or damaged. This kit comes with a USB cable, ready to plug into a PC or POS.
With a 1280 x 800 sensor and Honeywell's motion tolerance of up to 400 cm/s, it reads fast-moving items, damaged labels, codes on phone screens, OCR text and Digimarc watermarks. The HD focus trades a little far-range for sharper close-up reading of small, dense Data Matrix and 1D codes.
What's in the Box
- 1 x Honeywell Xenon XP 1950g HD scanner, black
- 1 x USB Type A straight cable (3 m per Honeywell kit description)
- No stand - available separately
What It Means in Practice
- Plug in the USB cable and scan - the scanner works as a USB keyboard, so codes go straight into your till, ERP or Excel.
- Reads the tiny Data Matrix codes on electronic components, PCBs, medicines and lab tubes that standard-range scanners struggle with.
- Handles phone screens, crumpled labels and low-contrast print (down to 15% print contrast).
- Reads OCR text and Digimarc watermarks, so it covers passports/ID OCR lines and digitally watermarked packaging where your software supports it.
What Will Not Work
- HD optics are not for long-distance scanning: large 20 mil codes read to about 60 cm, so for shelf labels at a distance a standard-range (SR) model is better.
- The kit cable is USB - an IBM RS485 or RS232 register needs a different Honeywell cable.
- It is corded - no battery, no Bluetooth (the cordless version is the 1952g).

Frequently Asked Questions
HD or SR - which do I need?
HD (high density) is for small codes 3-5 mil close up: electronics, pharma, labs. If you mostly scan normal retail EAN codes or labels at arm's length, the standard-range 1950g SR is the better fit.
Does it read QR codes on phones?
Yes, the 1950g reads 1D and 2D codes on mobile phone screens as well as printed labels.
Can it be used in a stand?
Yes, it supports presentation mode; the stand is sold separately - ask us for the matching Honeywell stand.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The 1950g is Honeywell's current general-duty flagship, and the HD version is the one to choose when your codes are small: component labels, pharmacy packs, lab tubes. It reads OCR and Digimarc without extra licences and carries a 5-year factory term, so it pays back over a long life. If your codes are ordinary shop barcodes, the SR version reads further and is the simpler choice.
✓ Buy it if you scan small or dense codes (3-5 mil) on components, medicines or samples and want a durable corded scanner with a long warranty.
✕ Skip it if you need to read shelf labels or large codes from a distance - choose the standard-range model.
→ Also consider the Zebra DS2208 for a lower-cost retail 2D scanner, or the Honeywell Orbit HF680 for hands-free counter scanning.
