The HP 712 Cyan DesignJet Ink Cartridge (3ED67A) is a genuine HP cyan cartridge for the HP DesignJet T210, T230, T250, T630, T650 and DesignJet Studio. HP publishes the content as 29 ml rather than a page count, because large-format usage varies so much from drawing to drawing.

It is aimed at architects, engineers, students and small studios who print CAD drawings, plans and posters on an entry-level HP DesignJet and want the colour HP designed for the printer, with no surprises in line quality or colour.

• 29 ml is the standard colour size for this DesignJet family. How many drawings you get depends on coverage: line drawings use very little colour, filled renders and posters use much more.
• Because each colour is a separate cartridge, the printer will tell you which one is low and you replace only that one — keep a spare of the colour you use most.
• Keep the cartridge sealed in its pack until you install it, store it at room temperature, and install it promptly once opened so the ink does not dry at the nozzles.
• If you print a lot, compare with the higher-capacity version: HP also sells the 29 ml colours as 3-packs.
• A low-ink warning is an early alert: you can usually keep printing for a while, so order the replacement when it appears instead of waiting for the cartridge to run completely empty.
• After installing, print the printer's print-quality or test page once to confirm every colour is printing cleanly before a long or important job.
• DesignJet printers keep a small reserve and will warn you before a colour runs out, so you can finish the current drawing set and change the cartridge between jobs.

• Printers that use HP 711 cartridges — the shape and contacts are different, so it will not fit or will not be recognised.
• Other colours: this pack contains cyan only — the other colours of the 712 system are bought separately.
• Larger HP DesignJet models (T830, T1600, Z-series) — they use different HP cartridge numbers.
• It does not include a printhead — the printhead stays in the printer and is not replaced with the cartridge — and it will not fix print faults caused by a damaged printer.
