HP v222w 64 GB — A Metal Stub the Length of a Coin
64 GBUSB 2.017.9 x 12 x 4.56 mm, 2.8 gKey fob supplied
The HP v222w is a 64 GB flash drive in a micro metal body just 17.9 x 12 x 4.56 mm and weighing 2.8 g — PNY describes it as roughly the length of a coin. It is capless with a high-gloss metal finish and comes with a key-fob attachment. HP licenses its name for these drives rather than making them: PNY Technologies manufactures, publishes the specification and provides the warranty.
Compatibility — check before buying:
???? This is a USB 2.0 drive, and at 64 GB that matters. PNY states it explicitly: the drive works in USB 3.0 host devices but only at standard USB 2.0 speeds. Filling 64 GB over a USB 2.0 link is a job measured in hours rather than minutes. Buy it as a drive you load occasionally and leave in a port, not one you copy to regularly. PNY publishes no read or write speed for it at all — the speed rows of its own specification table read simply “USB 2.0”. A footnote elsewhere on the sheet mentions a 3 MB/s figure, but that is PNY’s baseline for calculating a marketing comparison, not a rated write speed for this drive, so we do not publish it. Two more points. The HP-branded range is not consistent on speed: the x796w is USB 3.2 at 70 MB/s and the 712w at 120 MB/s, both in similar small metal bodies. If you wanted a fast HP-branded drive, this is not it. And PNY does not publish a colour for the v222w, so we state none.
Best For
✓ Leaving semi-permanently in a laptop, car stereo or console port
✓ A small dedicated drive for firmware, configuration files or documents
✓ Key-fob carry — the attachment is supplied, not an extra
✓ Older computers and equipment with USB 2.0 ports anyway
✓ Handing out files where cost per drive counts
✓ Anyone who wants metal rather than plastic at this size
Key Features
17.9 mm of metal
The whole drive is 17.9 x 12 x 4.56 mm and weighs 2.8 g, in a high-gloss durable metal finish. Plugged in, almost nothing protrudes.
Capless
No cap and no slider — nothing to lose. On a drive this small that is the sensible design choice.
Key fob in the pack
PNY supplies a key-fob attachment with the drive. On a 2.8 g stub, an attachment point is what stops it disappearing.
Two-year manufacturer term
PNY, which makes and warrants HP-branded drives under licence, publishes a two-year warranty for this product.

Singular Expert Insight
There is a legitimate case for this drive and it is not speed: a 2.8 g metal stub with a key fob, small enough to leave in a car stereo or a laptop for years, at a price that reflects the interface. What we will not do is let the metal finish and the HP badge imply performance. It is USB 2.0, PNY publishes no throughput figure at all, and at 64 GB the interface is the limiting factor on anything larger than documents. If you want a small HP-branded metal drive that is genuinely quick, the 712w at 120 MB/s is the one to ask for, and there are faster options throughout our USB flash drives range. For anything you work from rather than carry, an external SSD is the right class of product.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a tiny metal drive with a key fob to leave in a port or on your keys, the files go on once, and USB 2.0 speed is genuinely acceptable for that.
Skip it if
You will copy to it regularly, or you assumed a metal HP drive would be quick. At 64 GB the USB 2.0 interface is the whole story — the HP 712w is the fast alternative.
Also consider
HP 712w for a USB 3.2 drive at 120 MB/s with a slider and key loop. HP x796w at 70 MB/s. SanDisk Ultra Fit if you want a tiny USB 3 drive that stays in the port.
