i-tec U3GL3SLIM — 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub with Gigabit Ethernet
Wired Gigabit LAN3 x USB-A at 5 GbpsASIX AX88179 chipset16 cm integrated cable
The i-tec U3GL3SLIM answers two problems with one lead: too few USB ports, and a laptop with no network socket. It plugs into a USB-A port on a 16 cm integrated cable and gives back three USB-A ports at 5 Gbps plus an RJ-45 socket running full Gigabit Ethernet on an ASIX AX88179 controller. The body is 123 x 29 x 19 mm and weighs 50 g, so it lives in a bag rather than on a desk.
Compatibility — check before buying:
The plug on this model is USB-A. A laptop with only USB-C ports cannot use it without an adapter — i-tec makes USB-C versions, so ask us rather than buying an adapter. The Ethernet port is Gigabit over a cable, not Wi-Fi, so you need a live network socket or a switch at the desk. Windows 10 and 11 and current macOS install the network driver themselves; i-tec publishes drivers for Windows, macOS and Linux only for the cases where they do not. The hub is bus-powered with no external supply, so devices that need their own mains adapter still need it.
Best For
✓ Laptops and ultrabooks with no built-in network port
✓ Offices that require a wired connection for security or stability
✓ Video calls and large file transfers where Wi-Fi is unreliable
✓ Adding three USB-A ports at the same time
✓ Site visits and meeting rooms — 50 g in a laptop bag
✓ Mini PCs and tablets that support USB Ethernet
Key Features
Real Gigabit, not Fast Ethernet
10/100/1000 Mbps on an ASIX AX88179, the controller most laptop vendors use in their own adapters. It is the difference between a 1 Gbps link and the 100 Mbps that cheap adapters quietly deliver.
Three USB ports at 5 Gbps
USB 3.2 Gen 1 on all three sockets, backward compatible with USB 2.0. Enough for a mouse, a keyboard and a flash drive, or one external SSD at full speed.
Driver-free on current systems
Windows 10 and 11 and current macOS pick up the network adapter automatically. i-tec also publishes Windows, macOS and Linux drivers for older or stripped-down installs.
Slim and light
123 x 29 x 19 mm and 50 g with a short 16 cm captive cable, so nothing dangles and there is no separate lead to lose.

Singular Expert Insight
The reason to buy a hub with Ethernet rather than a plain one is almost never speed — it is reliability. Wired links do not drop mid-call and do not fight with a crowded office access point, which is why IT departments still specify them for meeting rooms and finance desks. What matters in the spec is the controller: i-tec names the AX88179, which has years of driver maturity behind it on Windows, macOS and Linux. If the desk has no live socket, the missing piece is a network switch rather than a different adapter. And if you also need a monitor from the same cable, that is a docking station — this hub carries no video at all.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Your laptop has USB-A but no network port, and you want a wired gigabit connection plus three extra USB ports from one 50 g device.
Skip it if
Skip it if your laptop only has USB-C ports, if you need video output, or if you plan to run mains-powered USB devices that the host cannot feed.
Also consider
A USB-C version of the same idea if your laptop has no USB-A port, or a docking station if a monitor and charging need to come off the same cable.
