The i-tec U3METALGLAN is a USB 3.0 (USB-A 3.2 Gen 1) to Gigabit Ethernet adapter in a space-grey metal housing, adding a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port to laptops, desktops and tablets with a USB Type-A port. It suits office users with thin notebooks, IT technicians who need a reliable spare network port, and anyone replacing an unreliable Wi-Fi connection with a cable.

It uses the Realtek RTL8153 controller, which is supported natively by most operating systems. i-tec lists Windows 10/11, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iPadOS. The adapter supports Wake-on-LAN, jumbo frames up to 9 KB, IEEE 802.3az energy saving and checksum offload for IPv4/IPv6, which reduces CPU load during large transfers.

The 28 cm integrated cable lets the adapter lie flat on the desk instead of hanging from the port, and the metal body helps dissipate heat during long transfers.

i-tec lists Android and iPadOS. The tablet needs a USB-A port or a suitable adapter, and must support USB Ethernet.
Do I need to install a driver?

What is the difference from C31METALGLAN?
Only the plug: U3METALGLAN has USB-A, C31METALGLAN has USB-C. Chipset and features are the same.
Why am I not getting 1 Gbps?
Use a USB 3.0 port, a Gigabit switch port and a Cat5e or better cable.
