The ICY DOCK EZConvert Pro MB982SP-1S is the enterprise version of ICY DOCK’s 2.5-to-3.5-inch converter: a full metal mounting kit that carries one 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drive into an internal 3.5-inch bay. Where the plastic models in the range simply hold the drive, the metal body conducts heat out of it and into the bracket, and it survives the vibration and handling of an industrial or rack environment. It uses ICY DOCK’s SmartFit mounting, so 7, 9.5, 12.5 and 15 mm drives all seat correctly, and the whole assembly is passive — the drive keeps its own 22-pin SATA edge in the 3.5-inch position and the host sees the real drive.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Power Disable is the one thing to check before ordering. ICY DOCK states that this converter does not support the SATA 3.3 / SAS 3.0 PWDIS feature: a drive with Power Disable active will not spin and the system will not detect it, which looks exactly like a dead drive. Many recent enterprise HDDs ship this way. ICY DOCK’s own published workarounds are a Molex-to-SATA power adapter or Kapton tape over pin 3 — send us the drive model and we will check it first. Two other points: SAS is single channel and needs a SAS host controller, so a SAS drive on a plain motherboard SATA port will not be detected; and this is an internal mounting kit, so ICY DOCK makes no hot-swap claim for it — do not plan on live drive changes. Drive height is 7 to 15 mm, which is what separates it from the plastic MB882SP-1S-1B and -2B at 12.5 mm. No cables are in the box.

Key Features
Metal that does thermal work
The full metal body is not cosmetic. A hot enterprise SSD sealed inside a plastic shell has nowhere to send its heat; here the shell is a conductor, moving heat into the bracket and the bay. At 321 g it is more than three times the weight of the lightest plastic converter in the range, and that mass is the feature.
Seven to fifteen millimetres, SmartFit
ICY DOCK’s SmartFit mounting takes 7, 9.5, 12.5 and 15 mm drives in the same body. The 15 mm figure is the important one: the tall 2.5-inch enterprise disks that will not close in a 12.5 mm plastic converter fit here without modification.
Nothing in the signal path
There is no bridge chip. The drive keeps its own 7-pin data and 15-pin power connectors and the converter simply positions them where a 3.5-inch drive would sit, so the host reports the drive by its real model name. ICY DOCK publishes SATA 3.0 up to 6 Gbps and SAS 4.0 up to 24 Gbps single channel as the connector’s rated pass-through — actual speed is set by the drive and the controller.

Buy it if
You need a 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drive in a 3.5-inch bay, the drive is up to 15 mm and runs hot or lives somewhere rough, and it does not use SATA Power Disable.
Skip it if
Your drive uses PWDIS — it will not spin. You need hot-swap, which this kit does not claim. Or the drive is a cool client SSD in a desktop, where a plastic converter does the same job for less.
