The ICY DOCK FLEX-FIT Trio MB343SP fits three drives into one external 5.25-inch half-height bay: a 3.5-inch device or hard disk, plus two 2.5-inch drives. It is a passive plastic bracket with no backplane and no electronics — every drive keeps its own data and power cables and is wired straight to the motherboard, so nothing sits between the drives and the host. The 3.5-inch position uses ICY DOCK’s Smart-Tip locking mechanism and needs no screws, which also means the position can take a 3.5-inch mobile rack or bracket rather than a bare disk. A snap-off front dust cover keeps the bay closed until it is in use.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Trio or Duo — check the letter. The MB343SP Trio holds one 3.5-inch device plus two 2.5-inch drives. The near-identical MB343SPO Duo holds one 3.5-inch device plus an ultra-slim optical drive and has no 2.5-inch bay at all. If you are mounting SSDs, the Trio is the one you want. Other points that decide the order: the 2.5-inch positions take drives up to 9.5 mm, so 12.5 mm and 15 mm 2.5-inch disks are out; it needs an external 5.25-inch half-height bay, meaning a front-facing opening rather than an internal cage; and it is not hot-swap — there is no backplane, so the machine goes off before a drive comes out. No cables are supplied, and three drives need three SATA ports and three power connections. Tell us the case and how many free ports you have and we will make sure the order is complete.

Three drives, one bay
A 5.25-inch half-height bay normally takes one device. The Trio divides it into a 3.5-inch position and two 2.5-inch positions, which in practice turns an unused optical bay into a hard disk plus two SSDs. The bracket measures 145.8 × 170 × 41.3 mm and weighs 109 g, so it drops into the bay like an optical drive would.
Screwless 3.5-inch mounting
ICY DOCK’s Smart-Tip locking mechanism holds the 3.5-inch device without screws, so a hard disk goes in and out by hand. Because that position accepts brackets and mobile racks as well as bare drives, the bay can be re-purposed later — a rack in the 3.5-inch slot turns the assembly into a swappable bay with two fixed SSDs beside it.
Nothing between drive and motherboard
There is no backplane and no bridge chip. Each of the three drives is cabled directly to the host, so there is no shared bandwidth, no controller to update and nothing that can throttle a link. If the bracket is ever removed the drives simply carry on working, and a snap-off dust cover closes the front while the bay is empty.

The Trio is the more useful of the two FLEX-FIT brackets for most builds today, simply because optical drives have gone and SSDs have not. Where it earns its keep is in an older tower with one empty 5.25-inch bay and no 2.5-inch mounting points anywhere: three drives go in, nothing is cut or drilled, and the front stays tidy behind the dust cover. The one design decision worth thinking about is what goes in the 3.5-inch position — a bare disk if you want capacity, or a mobile rack if you want a bay you can pull from the front. You have one free external 5.25-inch bay and want a 3.5-inch device plus two 2.5-inch drives in it, your SSDs are 9.5 mm or thinner, and you have three spare SATA ports.
Skip it if
You wanted an optical drive slot — that is the MB343SPO Duo. Your 2.5-inch drives are thicker than 9.5 mm. Or you need hot-swap, which a passive bracket cannot give you.
