ICY BOX IB-223U3a-B — 2.5" SATA Enclosure, USB 3.0 with UASP
USB 3.0 · 5 Gbit/s2.5" SATA HDD/SSDUASP · Tool-FreeSilicone Sleeve
The ICY BOX IB-223U3a-B is a 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD enclosure with USB 3.0 that turns a 2.5-inch SATA drive into fast external storage at up to 5 Gbit/s, ideal for backups, extra capacity and reusing a spare laptop drive. Manufactured by RaidSonic, part number IB-223U3a-B, it features a tool-free install, a carbon-look shell and a removable silicone protection sleeve that adds grip and absorbs knocks. UASP support speeds up SSD transfers on a compatible host, and the enclosure draws power over USB with no external adapter. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.
Before you buy — compatibility
Fits 2.5" SATA HDDs and SSDs up to 9.5 mm in height only — it does not support 3.5" drives or M.2/NVMe SSDs. The host connector is USB Type-A; on a USB-C-only laptop you will need a USB-C to USB-A adapter. It is bus-powered, so no external power supply is required.
Key Features
Tool-Free Install & Silicone Sleeve
A 2.5" SATA drive slides in without a screwdriver, then a removable silicone sleeve wraps the carbon-look shell for extra grip and drop protection.
UASP-Accelerated USB 3.0
The USB 3.0 host interface runs at up to 5 Gbit/s and supports UASP — USB Attached SCSI Protocol, lifting real-world SSD speeds over standard USB mass storage.
Bus-Powered & Hot-Swap
Runs entirely on USB power with no adapter, and supports hot-swap and plug-and-play on Windows and macOS with LEDs for power and drive activity.

Singular Expert Insight
The tool-free tray and silicone sleeve make this a tidier choice than a bare cable adapter for a drive you handle often, and UASP keeps SSDs quick. If you want a fully finished portable drive with no assembly, see our external SSDs range; for newer laptops, pick a USB-C version instead.
Buyer's Guide
Buy it if
You want a slick, tool-free 2.5" SATA enclosure with UASP speed and a protective silicone sleeve for a spare HDD or SSD.
Skip it if
Your drive is 3.5" or M.2/NVMe, or you need a USB-C connection or a rugged waterproof case.
Also consider
A USB-C 2.5" enclosure for newer laptops, or the IcyBox IB-AC703-U3 cable adapter for quick drive access.
