ICY DOCK EZ-Slide Micro MB992TRAY-B — Spare Tray for ToughArmor Racks
Fits nine cage familiesUp to 9.5 mm drivesMetal, 51.5 gNo keylock — see MB996TK-B
The ICY DOCK EZ-Slide Micro MB992TRAY-B is a spare metal drive tray covering the widest family of ICY DOCK ToughArmor 2.5-inch racks. It is the carrier a drive is fixed into before it slides into the cage — 117.4 × 69.8 × 11.5 mm, 51.5 g, all metal — and it takes 2.5-inch drives up to 9.5 mm, which covers essentially every current 2.5-inch SSD and the common laptop hard disks. It has no lock: the drive is retained by the cage latch, and the lockable version of the same tray is the MB996TK-B. Buy one per drive and swapping storage stops involving a screwdriver.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Fits: ToughArmor MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 and MB996 series racks. That is ICY DOCK’s own list, and it is the broadest of the EZ-Slide tray families. One explicit exception: ICY DOCK states that this tray is not compatible with the MB411SPO-2B, even though other MB411 cages are on the list — that particular model uses the MB993TP-B tray instead. So an MB411 cage needs its full suffix checked, not just the family number. The Micro tray also does not interchange with the other EZ-Slide sizes: the Nano (MB998TP-B) is about 2 mm wider and takes 7 mm drives, and the Mini (MB991TRAY-B) is thicker and takes up to 15 mm. They will not swap. Drive limit here is 9.5 mm; a 12.5 mm or 15 mm 2.5-inch disk needs the Mini family instead. Read the model number off the front of your cage and send it to us if there is any doubt.
Best For
✓ Adding spare trays to a ToughArmor 2.5-inch rack
✓ 9.5 mm laptop hard disks as well as 7 mm SSDs
✓ Replacing a tray lost or damaged during service
✓ Rotating a backup or archive set, one drive per tray
✓ Filling every bay of a cage that shipped with fewer trays
✓ Bench and imaging work where drives change constantly
Key Features
The broadest fit in the EZ-Slide range
Nine ToughArmor cage families take this tray — MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 and MB996 — which makes it the one worth keeping a few of if you run more than one ICY DOCK rack. The single documented exception is the MB411SPO-2B, which needs a different tray.
Nine and a half millimetres, not seven
The Micro profile takes drives up to 9.5 mm, which matters if your drives are not all modern SSDs. A 9.5 mm laptop hard disk goes into this tray and will not go into the 7 mm Nano tray at all — that difference of 2.5 mm is the most common reason a spare tray turns out to be the wrong one.
Metal, and priced to buy several
ICY DOCK builds the ToughArmor trays in metal rather than plastic, because they are designed for racks that get cycled hard. At 51.5 g they add nothing to a drive, and since a hot-swap rack only saves time when every drive already sits in its own tray, they are bought several at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which cages does this tray fit?
ToughArmor MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 and MB996 series racks — with one documented exception. ICY DOCK states that the tray is not compatible with the MB411SPO-2B, which needs the MB993TP-B instead. Send us the full model number from the front of your cage if you are not sure which you have.
Will a 12.5 mm or 15 mm drive fit?
No. This tray takes drives up to 9.5 mm. For thicker 2.5-inch drives you need the EZ-Slide Mini family, MB991TRAY-B, and a cage that accepts it — tell us your cage model and we will check.
What is the difference from MB996TK-B?
The keylock. The MB996TK-B is the same Micro tray with a metal lock and fits exactly the same cages; this one has no lock and relies on the cage latch. Size, weight and drive support are otherwise identical.
Can I use a Nano tray in the same cage?
No. The EZ-Slide sizes are physically different and each fits its own cage families. The Nano is roughly 2 mm wider and 1.4 mm thinner and takes 7 mm drives only; it will not seat in a Micro cage, and a Micro tray will not seat in a Nano one.
Singular Expert Insight
This is the tray to keep spares of if you run ICY DOCK racks at all, simply because it covers more cage families than any of its siblings and takes 9.5 mm drives rather than only 7 mm ones. The two things that catch people are both about part numbers rather than about the tray: the MB411SPO-2B carve-out, which is easy to miss because every other MB411 is on the list, and the assumption that EZ-Slide trays are one product in different colours. They are three different sizes. Check the cage model in full and you will not go wrong. For the drives, our
internal SSDs range covers the 2.5-inch models these racks are built around, and
HDD and SSD enclosures covers the cages themselves.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You own a ToughArmor MB092, MB111, MB118, MB411, MB604, MB608, MB839, MB992 or MB996 rack and want more trays, and your drives are 2.5-inch up to 9.5 mm.
Skip it if
Your cage is the MB411SPO-2B — that one needs the MB993TP-B. Your drives are thicker than 9.5 mm. Or you need a lockable tray, which is the MB996TK-B.
Also consider
ICY DOCK MB996TK-B for the same tray with a keylock, MB998TP-B for the 7 mm Nano cages, or MB991TRAY-B for the Mini family and drives up to 15 mm.
