The ICY BOX IB-HUB1417-i3 turns an empty 3.5-inch drive bay into something useful: one USB-C and two USB-A ports at up to 5 Gbps, plus SDHC and microSDHC card slots that work at the same time thanks to Multi-LUN support. It connects internally to a 20-pin USB 3.0 header on the motherboard and takes its power from a SATA connector, so nothing hangs out of the back of the case. The panel is 1 mm lacquered black metal and comes with a screw set.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Our catalogue calls this flush-mountable, which is misleading: it is an internal drive-bay front panel, not a desk hub — there is no cut-out to make in a desktop. Three things must be true of your machine. A free 3.5-inch bay, which many current cases no longer have. A spare internal 20-pin USB 3.0 header on the motherboard, often already used by the case’s own front ports. And a free SATA power connector — note that a SATA power cable is not in the scope of delivery on this model, so you connect a spare lead from the PC’s power supply. The card reader is SDHC and microSDHC class, not UHS-II.

That combination is the argument: many towers still have no USB-C at the front at all, and the reader saves a dongle for anyone who works with SD or microSD media — several standalone card readers still cannot mount two cards at once, and this can. The three things to verify before ordering are the bay, the 20-pin header and a spare SATA power lead, and the last of those is worth repeating because ICY BOX does not include a SATA cable with this model. If your board has the newer USB Type-E front-panel header, look at the IB-HUB1419-i3 instead, which reaches 20 Gbps.
