The ICY DOCK ExpressTray MB324TP-B is a spare drive tray for the ExpressCage MB324SP-B mobile rack. It is the caddy the drive screws into before it slides into the cage — a plastic carrier with a metal locating pin, 32 g, with no electronics of its own. Buy it when you want more drives than the cage came trays for, so that a set of disks can be rotated in and out without unscrewing anything, or when a tray has been lost or damaged. It takes any 2.5-inch SAS or SATA hard disk or SSD from 5 mm up to 12.5 mm thick. Note the word spare: on its own it does nothing, and it does not fit a plain drive bay.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This tray fits the ExpressCage MB324SP-B, and only that cage. ICY DOCK names exactly one parent for it. The trap in this family is close part numbers: the MB324V4P-B cage looks like a match because of the shared “324”, but it takes the MB732TP-B tray instead — the two are not interchangeable. The single-bay MB741SP-B takes MB741TP-B, and the two-bay MB742SP-B takes MB742TP-B. Before ordering, read the model number off the front of your cage rather than from a delivery note. Drive height must be 5–12.5 mm; a 15 mm 2.5-inch drive will not go in. And because the tray is passive, the interface is whatever the parent cage provides — a SAS drive still needs a SAS controller behind the cage.
