The ICY DOCK flexiDOCK MB521SP-B turns one external 3.5-inch bay into a tray-less dock for a single 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive. The bare disk slides straight in — no caddy, no screws, no door — onto a hot-swap connector with a blue power and activity LED. Its useful distinction is height: it accepts 2.5-inch drives all the way up to 15 mm, so thick enterprise disks fit as easily as thin SSDs.
Compatibility — check before buying:
You need a free external 3.5-inch bay — the front-accessible kind. Many current cases no longer have one. This is a single-drive rack: the two-drive version in the same family is the MB522SP-B, which drops the limit to 9.5 mm. No drive and no cables are included — you supply one SATA data cable and a free 15-pin SATA power connection. SAS drives are supported by the connector, but a SAS disk still needs a SAS host controller in the machine.
