Intellinet 10GBase-T to 10GBase-R Media Converter — RJ45 to SFP+
Up to 10 GbpsRJ45 1/2.5/5/10GOpen SFP+ slot9K jumbo frames
The Intellinet 508193 is a multi-gigabit media converter that connects one RJ45 copper port running at 1, 2.5, 5 or 10 Gbps to fiber through an SFP+ slot. It is a straightforward way to bring a 10G NAS, server or switch with copper ports onto a fiber backbone, or to bridge two buildings at 10 Gbps over single-mode fiber.
Intellinet documents four work modes — 1000Base-T to 1000Base-X, 2.5GBase-T to 2500Base-X, 5GBase-T to 5GBase-R and 10GBase-T to 10GBase-R — so the copper speed and the transceiver speed must be the same on both sides of the converter.
Before you order: An SFP+ transceiver is required and sold separately. The copper port and the transceiver must run the same speed (for a 10G link: a 10G copper partner and a 10G SFP+). Intellinet’s datasheet table gives 10GBase-T copper reach as 50 m on Cat6a, not 100 m — keep the copper run to the converter short.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Intellinet 10GBase-T to 10GBase-R media converter (508193)
- 1 × external power adapter (12 V DC)
- 1 × user manual
- No SFP+ transceiver, fiber patch cord or network cable included
What It Means in Practice
- Typical job: a 10G NAS or hypervisor with RJ45 ports in one room, the core switch with SFP+ ports in another — one converter plus one SFP+ module on the NAS side links them over fiber.
- Copper cabling per Intellinet: 1000Base-T on Cat5 up to 100 m, 2.5G/5G on Cat5e up to 50 m, 10G on Cat6a up to 50 m.
- Full/half duplex with auto-negotiation and jumbo frames up to 9 kB, useful for iSCSI and backup traffic.
- Metal housing (95 × 70 × 25 mm, about 0.21 kg) for desktop or wall use; several units can be fitted into a 19-inch rackmount chassis (not included).
- LEDs for power, RJ45 link/activity, SFP+ link/activity, 10G and optical signal detect.
What Will Not Work
- Operating without an SFP+ transceiver.
- Speed mismatch — e.g. a 10G copper device with a 1G SFP module will not link.
- PoE on the RJ45 port.
- Management, VLANs or monitoring — this is an unmanaged converter.
- 10G copper runs much beyond 50 m per Intellinet’s cabling table.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which transceiver do I need?
A 10G SFP+ that matches your fiber and the far end — SR for multimode, LR for single-mode. For a 1G link use a 1G partner and a 1G-capable module.
Can it connect a 2.5G or 5G device?
Yes, Intellinet lists 2.5G and 5G work modes, but the fiber side must run the same speed, so the transceiver and far end must support that rate too.
Can I rack-mount it?
Several units fit into a 19-inch rackmount chassis, which is sold separately.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A converter like this is the cheapest way to give one 10G copper device a fiber path. Buy the SFP+ at the same time and match it to what is in the far-end switch; most failed links come from mismatched optics or speeds. For many 10G fiber ports, our
switches with SFP ports with SFP+ uplinks may be a better long-term fit.
✓ Buy it if you need to put a multi-gig or 10G RJ45 device onto fiber.
✕ Skip it if both ends already have SFP+ ports, or you need PoE or management.
→ Also consider TRENDnet TFC-10GSFP (10G/1G copper to SFP+) or a switch with SFP+ ports.
Send us the copper device, the far-end switch and the fiber distance, and we will recommend the matching SFP+ before you order.
