The Intellinet 508483 is a 5m passive direct attach copper (DAC) twinax cable with an SFP+ plug fixed on each end, coded for HPE/Aruba switches, built for 10 Gigabit Ethernet links between switches, servers and storage inside the same rack or row.
Because the transceivers are moulded onto the cable, a DAC replaces two SFP+ optics plus a fibre patch lead with one part: lower cost, practically no power draw (under 0.1 W per end) and no optics to clean. The 5m length suits longer in-row runs, e.g. from a server two racks away to the aggregation switch.
Before you order: This version is HPE-coded. If your switch is Cisco, Ubiquiti, MikroTik, TP-Link or another MSA-standard brand, order the MSA-compliant Intellinet DAC of the same length instead.

What It Means in Practice
- Plug one end into an SFP+ port on each device: the link comes up at 10 Gbps with no optics to buy, clean or match
- Typical use: longer in-row runs, e.g. from a server two racks away to the aggregation switch
- Passive copper, so no active electronics and near-zero heat — fine for densely populated switches
- Respect the 23 mm minimum bend radius when routing it through cable managers; do not kink it at the plug
- Both ends carry the same HPE coding, so both devices on the link should accept that coding
What Will Not Work
- 10GBASE-T (RJ45) ports — this cable needs an SFP+ cage on both devices
- QSFP+/QSFP28 ports without a separate breakout or adapter — this is SFP+ to SFP+ only
- 1 Gbps-only SFP ports — Intellinet specifies it for 10 Gigabit Ethernet; do not plan on 1G links
- 25G SFP28 operation — the cable is rated for 10 Gbps maximum
- Runs longer than 5m — for longer distances use a longer DAC, an active optical cable or SFP+ optics with fibre
- Non-HPE gear that rejects HPE-coded modules — choose the MSA-compliant version

A 5m passive DAC is the simplest way to run 10G between switches, servers and NAS units sitting close together. The one decision that matters is coding: this unit is coded for HPE/Aruba. Measure the route including cable managers before choosing the length — too short will not reach, too long leaves a loop to manage.
✓ Buy it if both devices have SFP+ ports, at least one end is an HPE/Aruba switch that checks coding, and the run is 5m or a little less.
✕ Skip it if your ports are RJ45 10GBASE-T, QSFP, or your gear is not HPE/Aruba.
→ Also consider the MSA-compliant Intellinet DAC of the same length, or a different length if your run is shorter or longer.
