The Intellinet 507486 is a Gigabit WDM bidirectional SFP transceiver that runs a full link over one single-mode fibre strand, up to 10 km. It transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm, with digital diagnostics, and Intellinet builds it as an equivalent of the Cisco GLC-BX-D — the “downstream” end of a BiDi pair. In practice, bidirectional optics are used where fibre is scarce — a leased dark-fibre strand, a full duct or an old building link. Before you order, confirm which end of the strand gets which module type and that the fibre is single-mode all the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is one half of a pair: Intellinet states it must be paired with its 507509 or a Cisco GLC-BX-U, which is not included. Two 507486 modules will not link to each other. It uses one single-mode strand, not a duplex pair. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
