Jabra Engage 40 UC Stereo — Wired Headset with Inline Link Controls

Hardware call controls on the cableBusylight built into the headsetUC certified for Zoom, Cisco and UnifyThree-year Jabra term

The Jabra Engage 40 UC Stereo, order code 4099-419-269, is a wired office and contact centre headset whose defining feature is the Inline Link — a hardware control puck moulded into the cable that carries answer, mute, hold, volume, a programmable button and a busylight toggle. It means an agent drives a call by touch instead of hunting for the softphone window, which is the single thing that separates this code from the cheaper Engage 40 builds. Two MEMS microphones handle the outgoing call, a busylight in the headset turns red automatically, and the whole thing weighs 63 g on the head before the cable is counted.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Two things to settle before ordering. First, the Inline Link is what the 419 and 413 middle groups buy you: the codes ending 4099-410-xxx are the same headset with a plain cable and no buttons at all, and every call action then happens on screen. Second, this code is the UC build, certified for Zoom, Cisco, Unify, Google Meet, Amazon Chime and Chromebook, and its controller has no Microsoft Teams button — the sibling 4099-413-269 is the Microsoft Teams version and the two are physically identical otherwise, so the number on the box is the only way to tell them apart. Also note there is no active noise cancellation here: the noise work is on the microphone side, for the benefit of the person you are talking to.

Best For

✓ Office and contact centre desks that need physical call controls
✓ Sites where agents work from a CRM rather than a softphone window
✓ Machines with either USB-C or USB-A ports, since this code covers both
✓ Open-plan desks that need a visible busylight
✓ Deployments managed centrally through Jabra Xpress
✓ Zoom, Webex, Cisco and Genesys environments
✓ Buyers who want a three-year manufacturer term on a wired headset

Key Features

The Inline Link, in plain terms
A control unit built into the cable. Answer and end a call, mute and unmute, put a call on hold, change volume, press a programmable button configured in Jabra Direct, and switch the busylight on or off by holding it. Its LEDs show mute, hold, firmware updates, busylight state and incoming calls.

A busylight on the headset itself
The busylight lives in the headset, not in the Inline Link, so colleagues see it from across the desk. It turns red automatically when a call starts, and the Inline Link carries the manual on and off toggle for the times you want to be left alone without being on a call.

Two microphones tuned for speech
Two MEMS capsules at −38 dBV/Pa, running 100 Hz to 14,000 Hz, with Jabra noise reduction applied to the outgoing call. The boom arm bends to position and can be worn on either side. Speaker response opens up to 50 Hz to 20,000 Hz in music mode between calls.

Hearing protection and a long term
Jabra SafeTone 2.0 with PeakStop 105 limits sudden bursts on the line, and Jabra publishes a three-year term on the Engage family in EMEA — a year longer than the Evolve line, which matters when you are costing a floor of fifty desks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is the Inline Link?
A hardware control unit moulded into the cable, about 81 g of the headset’s 144 g total. It gives you answer and end, mute, hold, volume, a programmable button and a busylight toggle. Without it every one of those actions has to happen in the softphone window on screen.
Will it plug into a USB-A computer?
Yes. Jabra specifies the 269 order codes as USB-C/A, meaning the SKU covers both host port types. Jabra does not publish whether that is achieved with a reversible plug or a supplied adapter, so if the exact plug matters for a dock or a locked-down port, ask us and we will confirm it on a unit before you order a fleet.
Does it cancel office noise for the wearer?
No. The Engage 40 uses a noise-isolating fit and applies noise reduction to the outgoing call. It keeps your office out of the customer’s ear rather than out of yours. For the wearer to get quiet, you need a headset with active noise cancellation, which is a different family and a different price.
How do I tell the MS and UC versions apart in a box pile?
Only by the number. 4099-413-269 is the Microsoft Teams build, 4099-419-269 is UC. They are physically identical apart from the Teams button behaviour on the controller, so label them at goods-in if you buy both.
Singular Expert Insight
The Engage 40 is the sensible middle of the Jabra wired range, and almost every ordering mistake on it comes from the middle group of the code. 410 is the plain-cable headset with no buttons, 413 is Microsoft Teams with the Inline Link, and 419 is UC with the Inline Link. Agents who have used a headset with a mute button will not accept the 410 build, so it is worth paying the difference once rather than dealing with it at deployment. The three-year manufacturer term is the other reason this family gets specified for large floors — the Evolve line is published at two. If some of your desks also need a desk phone, this is not the family; look at DECT models in office and VoIP headsets instead, and see headphones if the requirement is listening rather than calling. Tell us the platform and how many desks and we will confirm the codes.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want hardware call controls on the cable, a busylight colleagues can see, and a wired headset that plugs into either a USB-C or a USB-A machine. The platform is Zoom, Cisco, Unify, Google Meet or another non-Teams softphone.

Skip it if

You need active noise cancellation, a desk phone connection or a wireless headset. You should also skip it if call control genuinely happens on screen anyway — the 4099-410 codes do the same job for less.

Also consider

The Microsoft Teams 4099-413-269 if Teams certification is required, the button-free 4099-410 codes if the softphone handles call control, or the Engage 50 II when call analytics and a three-microphone array matter.
