Kingston DataTraveler Exodia S 512 GB — Swivel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Drive

512 GBSwivel body, no capUSB 3.2 Gen 18.72 g

The Kingston DataTraveler Exodia S (DTXS/512GB) is a 512 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive in black and yellow, built around a swivel body that folds the connector into the housing when it is not in use. Half a terabyte on a drive that weighs under nine grams makes it a practical way to carry a whole media library, a project archive or a set of system images in a pocket.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Kingston publishes no transfer speed for the Exodia S — at 512 GB or at any other capacity. The product page, the datasheet and the parts database all state the interface, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and nothing more, with the note that speed varies by host and configuration. We are not going to print a number Kingston has not published, and any MB/s figure you see quoted for an Exodia S came from somewhere else. If a rated speed is part of your decision, say so and we will point you at a Kingston drive that publishes one. The connector is USB Type-A; a phone or a USB-C-only laptop needs an adapter, and none is included.

Best For

✓ Carrying a large photo, music or video library
✓ Archiving a finished project off a laptop
✓ System images and recovery media in one place
✓ A high-capacity drive that lives in a bag
✓ Anyone who has snapped the cap off a drive
✓ Buyers who want capacity rather than a speed rating

Key Features

Swivel body, nothing to lose
The connector folds into the housing on a swivel rather than hiding under a removable cap. There is no separate piece to leave on a desk, and nothing exposed when the drive is loose in a bag. It is the design that survives being carried rather than stored.

512 GB in 8.72 grams
57 x 19 x 11.8 mm and 8.72 g. Half a terabyte on something lighter than a set of keys means the capacity decision stops being about what you leave behind and starts being about what you can find.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 across the board
The drive uses the 5 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 1 bus and works in older USB 2.0 ports at the lower rate. It needs no drivers on Windows 11, macOS 13.7.6 or later, Linux 4.4.x or later, and ChromeOS.

Kingston’s five-year term
Kingston publishes a five-year warranty with free technical support on the Exodia S. That is at the long end for a consumer flash drive and it applies globally rather than only in one region.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this page not give a transfer speed?
Because Kingston does not publish one. We checked the Exodia S product page, the datasheet and the entry for this exact part in Kingston’s parts database, and all three give only the interface. Publishing a made-up figure would be worse than publishing none. If a speed rating matters, the Kingston DataTraveler Kyson and the DataTraveler SE9 G3 both publish read and write figures.
Is the Exodia S the same as the Exodia G2?
No. They are separate products with separate datasheets. The Exodia S is 57 x 19 x 11.8 mm at 8.72 g with a swivel body and no cap. The Exodia G2 is larger at 60.8 x 21.4 x 10.4 mm and 9.3 g, and uses a removable snap-on cap with a keyring hole. Neither publishes a speed. If you are replacing a drive you already own, match the part number rather than the name.
What fits in 512 GB?
Roughly 100 hours of 1080p video at typical bitrates, about 16,000 24-megapixel RAW photos, or an entire music library several times over. Formatted capacity always comes out a little below the stated figure because of the way capacity is counted.
Does it have a keyring loop?
Kingston does not publish one for the Exodia S, and the swivel body is the protection here rather than a loop. If a keyring attachment is essential, the Exodia G2 has a keyring hole, and the DataTraveler SE9 G3 is built around one.
Singular Expert Insight
Buy the Exodia S for capacity and for the swivel body, and be clear-eyed about what Kingston does not tell you. Half a terabyte at under nine grams with a five-year manufacturer term is a strong offer for carrying an archive, a media library or a set of images. What is missing is any published transfer speed, at any capacity — that is unusual for Kingston, and it means nobody can promise you how long a large copy will take. For a drive you load occasionally and read from often, that matters little. For one you refill every week, buy a model that puts its numbers in writing: within Kingston’s own range the Kyson and the SE9 G3 both do. One more point worth checking before you order: Exodia S, Exodia G2 and plain Exodia are three different drives with three different bodies, and the names are close enough that the wrong one gets ordered regularly.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want the most storage per gram on a keyring-sized drive, with a swivel body and nothing to lose, and you are loading it occasionally rather than rewriting it daily.

Skip it if

You need a published read or write speed before you buy — Kingston gives none for this model. Skip it too if you need USB-C, a keyring loop, or hardware encryption.

Also consider

Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 256 GB for a metal drive with 220 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write published. Kingston DataTraveler Exodia G2 512 GB for the same capacity with a keyring hole and a snap-on cap. Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 if the contents need encryption.
