Kingston DataTraveler Micro 128 GB — Ultra-Small Metal
24.95 mm longUp to 200 MB/s readCapless, built-in key loop5-year Kingston warranty
The Kingston DataTraveler Micro (DTMC3G2/128GB) is a 128 GB drive in a premium metal casing measuring just 24.95 × 12.2 × 4.5 mm — small enough to leave permanently plugged into a laptop, a car stereo or a smart TV without it sticking out. It is capless, with a built-in key loop, and Kingston publishes up to 200 MB/s read over USB 3.2 Gen 1. Kingston describes it as plug-and-stay storage, and that is exactly the job it does.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Do not confuse this with the DataTraveler microDuo 3C. The names differ by one word; the products differ by a connector. The DataTraveler Micro here has a single full-size USB plug and no USB-C, so it will not plug into a phone or a USB-C-only laptop. If a phone is part of the reason you are buying, the microDuo 3C (DTDUO3CG3) is the correct product. Kingston publishes read speed only — up to 200 MB/s — and no write speed at any capacity, and the read figure is identical at 64, 128 and 256 GB, so buying a bigger drive will not make it faster. Worth noting: Kingston never writes the connector type in words for this part, and it lists an older operating-system set for this model than for its newer drives.
Best For
✓ Permanent extra storage in a laptop
✓ Car stereos and in-car media
✓ Smart TVs and set-top boxes
✓ Games consoles that accept USB storage
✓ A drive that lives on a keyring
✓ Anywhere a full-size drive would snap off
Key Features
Small enough to leave in
At 24.95 mm long and 4.5 mm thick it barely protrudes from a USB port. That is what makes it usable as permanent storage in a laptop or a car rather than something you plug in and pull out.
Capless with a built-in key loop
No cap to lose, and a loop moulded into the body so it can live on a keyring. Both details are published by Kingston rather than inferred from photographs.
Up to 200 MB/s read
Kingston publishes 200 MB/s read over USB 3.2 Gen 1, the same at every capacity in the range. No write figure is stated, so expect that side to be slower.
Premium metal casing
A metal shell rather than moulded plastic. On a drive this small that matters more than usual, because there is very little material between the port and your keys.

Singular Expert Insight
The whole argument for the DataTraveler Micro is its size: 24.95 mm of metal that you plug in once and forget. That makes it a different purchase from a pocket drive — it competes with leaving a memory card in a slot, not with carrying files around. The published 200 MB/s read is flat across capacities, so pick the size you need and nothing more. Two cautions before ordering. The name is one word away from the microDuo 3C, which is the dual-connector product, and getting them mixed up means a drive that will not plug into your phone. And Kingston lists an older operating-system set for this model than for its newer drives, so on a very recent macOS it is worth a quick check — tell us the machine and we will confirm.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want permanent, unobtrusive storage in a laptop, a car or a TV, 128 GB is the right size, and a metal body with a built-in key loop suits how it will be carried.
Skip it if
You need USB-C for a phone or a modern laptop, you need a published write speed, or you want a drive you can grip easily to pull in and out every day.
Also consider
Kingston’s DataTraveler microDuo 3C if a phone is part of the picture, or the DataTraveler SE9 G3 if you want published read and write figures in a slightly larger metal body.
