Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 128 GB — Gold Metal
220 MB/s read100 MB/s write5 g metal casing5-year Kingston warranty
The Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 is a 128 GB USB-A flash drive in a premium metal casing weighing 5 grams and measuring 39 × 12.2 × 4.6 mm — short enough to sit almost flush in a laptop port. Kingston publishes 220 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write, and those figures are identical at 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB, so this capacity is the full-speed part rather than a cut-down one. This part number is the gold finish, and it carries Kingston’s five-year warranty with free technical support.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Order by part number, not by model name. The SE9 G3 is sold in more than one finish — this DTSE9G3/128GB is the gold version, and there is a dark nickel one at the same capacity under a different code. Asking for “SE9 G3 128 GB” alone can get you the wrong colour. It is a USB Type-A drive with no USB-C connector, so a phone, a tablet or a USB-C-only laptop needs an adapter. Kingston does not print a keyring loop in the datasheet for this model, so do not count on one for a keyring. Because the drive is only 4.6 mm thick and 39 mm long it is well suited to staying permanently in a laptop, a car stereo or a television — but that also means it is small enough to be easy to lose off a desk.
Best For
✓ Leaving permanently in a laptop or car USB port
✓ Fast transfers where a published speed matters
✓ A pocket drive that will not snap
✓ Smart TVs, set-top boxes and consoles
✓ Carrying a working set of documents and photos
✓ Handing files over without a cable
Key Features
Published speeds, flat across capacities
220 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write, and Kingston prints the same figures for 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB. Bigger is not faster here, so there is no reason to buy more capacity than you need in the hope of more speed.
Metal casing at 5 grams
A premium metal shell at 39 × 12.2 × 4.6 mm and 5 g. Small enough to leave plugged in, solid enough to live loose in a pocket with keys and coins.
USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds
Kingston states USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds over a USB Type-A connector, backwards compatible with older ports at their own rates.
Five years, with support behind it
A five-year warranty with free technical support, applied uniformly across Kingston’s regions rather than varying by market — unusually long for a drive this size and price.

Singular Expert Insight
The SE9 G3 is the drive to pick when you want a number you can actually compare and a body that will not break. Kingston publishes both read and write — 220 and 100 MB/s — where a great many drives at this price publish nothing at all, which makes honest comparison impossible. And because those figures do not change with capacity, there is no upsell argument for buying larger. The thing to watch when ordering is the finish: the SE9 G3 exists in gold and in dark nickel, the model names are identical, and only the part number separates them. Tell us where the drive will live — a laptop, a car, a television — and we will confirm the fit before you buy.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a small metal USB-A drive with speeds Kingston actually publishes, 128 GB is the right size, gold is the finish you want, and five years of cover matters on something this small.
Skip it if
You need USB-C for a phone or a modern laptop, you need a keyring loop you can rely on, or you need hardware encryption for confidential files.
Also consider
The Kingston DataTraveler Kyson for a capless metal drive with a built-in key loop, or the DataTraveler Duo if you also need a USB-C connector.
