LaCie Rugged USB-C 2TB — Portable Hard Drive Built for the Field
Rugged portable HDD2TBDrop · crush · rain resistantUSB-C bus-powered
The LaCie Rugged USB-C 2TB (STFR2000800) is a portable hard drive for photographers, videographers and anyone who carries data outside the office: the orange rubber bumper protects against 1.2 m drops, it survives a 1-ton car driving over it and it shrugs off rain, while a single USB-C cable powers and connects it.
It works with Mac, Windows and iPad over USB-C, USB4 and Thunderbolt ports, and comes with LaCie Toolkit for backups and Rescue Data Recovery Services for peace of mind if something still goes wrong.
Before you order: Only a USB-C cable is guaranteed in the box. If your computer has only USB-A ports, plan for a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter. Rain resistant does not mean waterproof — do not submerge it.
What's in the Box
- LaCie Rugged USB-C 2TB portable drive
- USB-C cable (USB 3.1, 5Gb/s)
- Quick Install Guide
- Rescue Data Recovery Services plan (not available in all countries)
What It Means in Practice
- Bus-powered: one USB-C cable carries data and power, so there is no adapter to carry.
- Drop resistance is rated non-operating — disconnect and pack it before moving; a hard drive is most vulnerable while spinning.
- 2TB holds roughly a season of RAW photos or several hours of 4K footage, depending on format and bitrate.
- LaCie Toolkit can schedule backups and mirror a folder automatically to the drive.
What Will Not Work
- Submersion in water — it is rain resistant, not waterproof, and no IP rating is published.
- SSD-class speed — this is a mechanical hard drive; for fast editing directly from the drive choose an external SSD.
- USB-A ports without a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter.
- Phones that cannot power an external hard drive over USB-C.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The Rugged USB-C is the classic location drive: tough enough for camera bags and job sites, and cheap per terabyte. If you edit directly from the drive or move large 4K files daily, an SSD is much faster — see our external SSDs.
✓ Buy it if you carry backups or footage outside the office and need a tough, bus-powered drive with a USB-C connection.
✕ Skip it if you need SSD speed, a waterproof (IP67) drive or more than a few terabytes on the desk.
→ Also consider LaCie d2 Professional for a desktop backup drive or a rugged external SSD for faster editing.
