Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 Aura Edition — Under a Kilogram, With a 2.8K OLED
14-inch 2.8K OLED, 120 Hz, 100% DCI-P3From 0.998 kg — carbon fibre and magnesiumIntel Core Ultra 7 355, 49 TOPS NPU32GB and 1TB, 3-year warranty included
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 Aura Edition is the flagship of the ThinkPad range and the first machine in this family where the screen is a reason to buy rather than a compromise. Its 14-inch 2.8K OLED covers 100% of DCI-P3, runs at 120 Hz with variable refresh, carries DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and is a touchscreen. The whole laptop weighs from 0.998 kg in a carbon-fibre lid over a magnesium base. Inside are an Intel Core Ultra 7 355 with a 49 TOPS neural engine, 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 and a 1TB PCIe NVMe drive with Opal 2.0 encryption. Three years of warranty and Premier Support are included.
Compatibility — check before buying:
???? There is no ethernet port and no smart card reader. Both are on the T14 and L16 ThinkPads; neither is on this machine. If your office requires a wired connection or smart card sign-in, you will need a Thunderbolt dock for the first and a different ThinkPad for the second. The memory is soldered at 32GB and cannot ever be upgraded — there are no slots. There is only one USB-A port; everything else is Thunderbolt, so budget for adapters or a dock if you carry USB-A peripherals. The touchscreen does not support a pen — Lenovo lists “Pen Not Supported”, so it is for tapping and scrolling, not writing. Mobile broadband is upgradable to 4G or 5G but not fitted and no SIM is included, there is no card reader, and the machine is Non-vPro. Tell us how it will be used and we will tell you whether the missing ethernet is a problem.
Best For
✓ Executives and consultants who carry a laptop everywhere
✓ Presenting and reviewing work where colour on screen matters
✓ Long travel days where every 100 g counts
✓ Video calls that need a genuinely good 10 MP camera
✓ Copilot+ and on-device AI work on the 49 TOPS NPU
✓ Desks already equipped with a Thunderbolt dock
Key Features
A screen worth the upgrade
2880x1800 OLED at 500 nits, 100% DCI-P3, 120 Hz with variable refresh and DisplayHDR True Black 500. Anti-glare, anti-reflection and anti-smudge coatings, and a 10-point touch layer. Nothing else in the ThinkPad business range comes close on colour.
Under one kilogram, and still MIL-STD-810H
From 0.998 kg and 16.85 mm at its thickest, with a carbon-fibre lid and a magnesium base. Lenovo still puts it through MIL-STD-810H testing, and it carries Intel Evo platform certification.
A camera built for how people actually work now
A 10 MP UHD sensor with discrete IR, a MIPI interface and a time-of-flight sensor, behind a physical privacy shutter. The ToF sensor also drives human presence detection, locking the machine when you step away.
Three Thunderbolt ports and a haptic touchpad
Three Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort 2.1 and 15–65 W power delivery, plus HDMI 2.1 and one USB-A. The touchpad is haptic rather than mechanical, so it clicks anywhere on its surface.

Singular Expert Insight
The X1 Carbon has always been the ThinkPad you buy when weight and screen matter more than ports, and the Gen 14 Aura Edition makes that trade sharper than usual. You gain a genuinely excellent 2.8K OLED, sub-kilogram weight, a 10 MP camera with presence detection and three Thunderbolt ports. You give up the ethernet socket, the smart card reader and any possibility of more than 32GB. Those are not minor for a corporate fleet — check them against your policy before comparing prices with a T Series machine. Note too that this configuration has ordinary integrated Intel graphics rather than Arc, so the OLED is doing the visual work, not the GPU. A Thunderbolt dock restores the ethernet and the USB-A ports at the desk, and given there is only one USB-A on the machine, most buyers will want one.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You carry a laptop every day, the screen is something you look at rather than just read from, and a dock at the desk covers the ports it does not have. The sub-kilogram weight and three-year cover with Premier Support make it a machine you keep.
Skip it if
You need built-in ethernet or a smart card reader, you may need more than 32GB, or you rely on several USB-A devices without a dock.
Also consider
ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 for upgradable LPCAMM2 memory, built-in ethernet and a smart card reader, at 1.27 kg. ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 with the Ultra 7 258V for Arc graphics. A Thunderbolt dock, which most buyers of this machine will need.
