The Lenovo USB-C to 2.5G Ethernet Adapter (4X91H17795) adds one 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 port to a laptop through its USB-C port, for ThinkPad and other thin notebooks that no longer have a built-in network socket.
It is aimed at offices and home workers who want a stable wired connection that is faster than ordinary Gigabit, without a dock. Lenovo states that 2.5G runs over existing Cat 5e cabling, so in most buildings no rewiring is needed.
Before you order: Lenovo publishes Windows 10 as the supported OS and requires the Lenovo USB 3.0 LAN driver for docks and adapters. The host USB-C port must supply 5 V / 3 A. Wake-on-LAN and MAC address pass-through only work if your laptop BIOS supports them.

What It Means in Practice
- 2.5 Gbps only appears when the other end — switch, router or NAS port — also supports 2.5GbE; on a normal Gigabit switch the adapter works at Gigabit.
- PXE boot support lets IT departments image and deploy laptops over the network through this adapter.
- On ThinkPads with MAC address pass-through enabled in BIOS, the laptop keeps its own MAC on the network — useful where the network uses MAC filtering or DHCP reservations.
- The cable is fixed to the body (about 200 mm overall length), so there is nothing to lose in a laptop bag.
What Will Not Work
- It does not charge the laptop — there is no USB-C power pass-through port.
- No extra USB ports or video output; for that you need a hub or dock.
- It will not reach 2.5 Gbps on a Gigabit-only switch or router.
- Lenovo does not list macOS or Linux support for this adapter.
