The LevelOne USB-0301 is a compact USB-A 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet adapter on a short cable, built on the Realtek RTL8152B chipset. It plugs into a USB-A port and gives a laptop, ultrabook, tablet or desktop PC a wired Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) connection through one RJ45 socket. It is plug and play, powered from the USB port, supports Wake-on-LAN, IPv4/IPv6 and IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet, and weighs only 18 g. A cable connection is the practical answer when Wi-Fi is weak or crowded, when a laptop has no network port, when the built-in port has failed, or when a PC needs a second network interface.

Compatibility — check before buying: USB-A plug: laptops with only USB-C ports need a USB-C to USB-A adapter, or the USB-C version of this adapter. Fast Ethernet only: the maximum is 100 Mbps. That is enough for internet up to 100 Mbit/s, printers and remote desktops, but not for fibre broadband above 100 Mbit/s or large file copies — for those choose a Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter.
