The LevelOne GVM-2001 is a smart managed Gigabit media converter that bridges a 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 copper port to a multi-mode fiber SC port, extending Ethernet up to 500 m between buildings, floors or equipment rooms. Part number GVM-2001 is the multi-mode SC model of the GVM-2000 series.

Unlike plain unmanaged converters, it can be managed via web or SNMP, with QoS, VLAN (including Q-in-Q), IGMP, ERPS and ACL functions, so the fiber link can be monitored and segmented like a switch port. It runs from the included 5 V adapter or slides into the LevelOne CVH-2000 19-inch 14-slot chassis for central installs.

Compatibility note: Built-in SC multi-mode optics: use multi-mode (OM2/OM3/OM4) duplex SC fiber and a matching multi-mode device at the far end. It will not work over single-mode fiber.

Can I use the GVM-2001 with single-mode fiber?
No. The GVM-2001 has multi-mode optics. For single-mode fiber choose the GVM-2002 (20 km), or the GVM-2000 with a single-mode SFP module.
What do I need at the other end of the fiber?
Another Gigabit multi-mode device with SC connection — typically a second GVM-2001, or a switch with a 1000BASE-SX SFP and SC-to-LC patch cord.
What is the difference between the GVM-2001 and the GVM-2002?
Both are managed Gigabit converters; the GVM-2001 uses multi-mode fiber up to 500 m, the GVM-2002 single-mode fiber up to 20 km.
