LevelOne GVT-2010 — Gigabit Media Converter, RJ45 to SFP, PoE-Powered (802.3af/at PD)
Powered by PoE (PD)10/100/1000 RJ45 ↔ SFP1000Base-SX/LX SFP slotSFP not included
The LevelOne GVT-2010 is a Gigabit media converter that joins a 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 copper port to an SFP slot, so an Ethernet link can run over fibre where copper stops at 100 metres. It suits remote spots with no mains socket nearby — a ceiling, a pole cabinet or a far corner of a warehouse — where the converter can take its power from the PoE switch it is connected to.
The trick is power: the RJ45 port is a PoE powered device (PD), so the GVT-2010 runs from an IEEE 802.3af/at PoE switch or injector on its copper side — no local power supply needed. A 5 V / 2 A adapter can be used instead, but it is optional and not in the box. Fibre optics are your choice via a hot-swap 1000Base-SX/LX SFP slot.
Before you order: the GVT-2010 receives PoE, it does not supply it. Without a PoE source on the RJ45 side you need the optional 5 V / 2 A adapter (not included). No SFP module is included — fit a 1000Base-SX or -LX SFP that matches the far end.
What's in the Box
- GVT-2010 media converter
- User manual
- No power adapter, no SFP module and no cables are included
What It Means in Practice
- One Ethernet cable from a PoE switch carries both data and power to the converter — handy where there is fibre but no socket.
- Choose the optics: a 1000Base-SX SFP for multimode or a 1000Base-LX SFP for single-mode; LevelOne quotes reach of up to 100 km with suitable optional transceivers.
- LFP (Link Fault Pass-through) drops the copper link if the fibre fails, so the switch knows the path is down.
- Supports 9K jumbo frames and store-and-forward switching for clean Gigabit throughput.
What Will Not Work
- Powering a camera or access point: it is a PoE receiver (PD), not a PoE source.
- Running from a non-PoE switch without the optional 5 V / 2 A adapter.
- 100Base-FX SFP modules or 10G SFP+ modules.
- Management: no web interface or SNMP.
Key Features
PoE powered (PD)
Draws power over the UTP cable from an IEEE 802.3af/at PoE switch or injector — place it where there is no socket.
Open SFP slot
Hot-swap 1000Base-SX/LX slot: multimode or single-mode, short or long reach, depending on the module you fit.
LFP and flow control
Link Fault Pass-through plus IEEE 802.3x flow control and back pressure.
9K jumbo frames
Store-and-forward switching with jumbo frames up to 9 KB and auto MDI/MDI-X.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my PoE switch power it?
Yes if the port is IEEE 802.3af (PoE) or 802.3at (PoE+). Passive 24 V “PoE” injectors are not a published power option.
Which SFP do I need?
A Gigabit 1000Base-SX SFP for multimode or 1000Base-LX for single-mode, matching the module or port at the far end. Tell us your fibre and distance and we will pair them.
Can I also power it locally?
Yes, with an optional 5 V / 2 A adapter, which is not included in the box.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The GVT-2010 solves a specific problem well: getting a Gigabit fibre link to a spot with no power socket, using PoE from the switch. Budget for the SFP module, and if the location does have mains power, a standard converter with its own adapter is simpler. For the PoE source, see our
network switches.
✓ Buy it if you need a Gigabit copper-to-fibre converter in a place with PoE but no power socket.
✕ Skip it if you have no PoE source and do not want to buy the optional adapter, or you need the converter to power a device.
→ Also consider LevelOne GVT-2011 (2 × SFP, redundant fibre mode) or GVM-1220 (managed, fixed SC single-mode).
Not sure which model the other end of your link needs? Send us the fibre type, distance and the device at the far end and we will check it before you order.
