The LevelOne SFP-2604 is an industrial 2.5 Gbps SFP transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 40 km at 1310 nm over a duplex LC connection, with digital diagnostics. Rated from −40 to 85 °C, it is aimed at industrial metro links, telco fronthaul, smart-grid backhaul and outdoor telecom cabinets. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It is a 2.5 Gbps optic: both ends must run 2.5G, so it will not link to a 1G (1000BASE) module, and the switch port must support 2.5G SFP optics — many SFP ports run 1G only and many SFP+ ports run 1G or 10G only. It needs single-mode fibre. It is a duplex (two-fibre) module at 1310 nm, not a BiDi pair: it does not pair with the 1550 nm SFP-2605. Plan an SFP-2604 at both ends. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Do I pair it with the SFP-2605?
No. Both are duplex two-fibre modules at different wavelengths, not a BiDi pair. Use an SFP-2604 at both ends of the link.
Will it link to a 1G SFP module?
No. It is a 2.5 Gbps optic; both ends must run 2.5G.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get the SFP-2604 module, a Quick Installation Guide and a Declaration of Conformity. The patch cord for the LC duplex connector, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
LevelOne builds the module to the SFP MSA standard and states it interoperates with any compliant port that supports the same speed. Switches that lock out third-party optics may refuse it — send us the model and we check it.
