The Lindy 43309 is a four-port USB 3.0 hub that adds four USB-A sockets to a computer over a single USB-A plug, with each port running at up to 5 Gbps. What separates it from an ordinary four-port hub is the row of switches: every port has its own on/off switch, so a device can be cut off without unplugging the cable. The body measures 100 x 30 x 9 mm and weighs 42 g, built from aluminium with ABS and PC end caps.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The plug on this hub is USB-A. It will not fit a laptop that only has USB-C ports unless you add an adapter. The hub is bus-powered and draws 5 V at 2 A from the host; the small Micro-B socket on the side is power only and carries no data, so plugging it into a second computer will not share the devices. Lindy supplies a 0.5 m USB-A to Micro-B cable for that socket but no mains power adapter. Each USB 3.0 port can deliver up to 900 mA depending on what you attach; a bus-powered 2.5-inch drive is usually fine, a 3.5-inch drive with its own mains supply is not this hub’s job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the switches cut power or just the data connection?
The switch turns the port off, so both the data link and the 5 V supply to that socket stop. It is the closest thing to unplugging the device without physically pulling the connector, which is why the hub suits benches where drives are swapped often.
Will the Lindy 43309 work with a USB-C laptop?
Not directly. The hub’s own plug is USB-A, so a USB-C-only machine needs a USB-C to USB-A adapter in between. Tell us which laptop you have and we will check whether a native USB-C hub is the cleaner answer.
Can I run two external drives off it at once?
Yes, but they share the host port’s 5 Gbps and its power budget. Two bus-powered 2.5-inch drives copying at the same time will each get roughly half the speed, and if the host port is weak the Micro-B socket is there to add current.
What is the difference between the 43309 and the Lindy 43324?
The switches and the power input. The 43324 is the same four-port 5 Gbps hub in a smaller grey body with no per-port switches and no Micro-B socket. If you never need to isolate a port, the 43324 is the simpler unit; if you do, only the 43309 does it.

A four-port hub is a commodity; per-port switches are not. In practice the switches earn their place on desks where the same USB drive is plugged and unplugged all day, or where a licence dongle should only be live during a session. Note what this hub does not do: no video, no Ethernet, no charging of the laptop. If you need a screen or a network socket from one cable, that is a docking station rather than a hub. And if the plan is to park several USB flash drives permanently, remember that the 5 Gbps is shared — four at once is fine for files, less so for simultaneous backups.
