Lindy 32696 HDMI 8K30 Signal Generator — A Known-Good Source in Your Pocket

HDMI 2.1, 40 Gbps13 test patterns, 16 timingsHDCP 1.4 / 2.3 selectableLCD menu, one button

The Lindy 32696 HDMI 8K30 Signal Generator is a wand-sized HDMI test source. Plug its male HDMI connector straight into a display, a matrix input, an extender or a wall plate, choose a resolution, colour space, colour depth and HDCP level from the LCD menu, and it puts out a known-good signal. It proves whether the screen and the cable chain can carry a given format without dragging a laptop or a media player to site.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This unit generates only — it cannot analyse. There is no HDMI input on it, so it will not read an incoming signal, will not report EDID and will not test cable quality. If you need to measure what is arriving on a cable, that is the Lindy 32695 Signal Analyzer, one digit away and the opposite tool. The output is a male HDMI Type A plug, so it goes into an input rather than sitting in a socket. It needs USB-C at 5 V 1 A from a host port or a charger; two USB-C to USB-A cables are supplied but no mains charger. Note also that Lindy titles this part 8K30 on its own product pages and in its manual, while Lindy Australia lists it as 8K60 — the manual and spec table are clear that 7680 x 4320 tops out at 30 Hz.

Best For

✓ Commissioning displays and video walls before handover
✓ Testing a matrix, splitter or extender without a source PC
✓ Proving HDCP 1.4 or 2.3 negotiation on a chain

Key Features

Thirteen test patterns
Black, CheckerBoard, B&W Bars, Red, Green, Blue, White, White Ramp, Red Ramp, Green Ramp, Blue Ramp, PRBS and Colour Bars. Enough to check geometry, colour, banding and dead pixels from one stick.

Sixteen selectable timings
1280x720 and 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, 3840x2160 at 24, 25, 30, 50, 60, 100 and 120 Hz, 5120x2160 at 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 Hz, 7680x2160 at 60 Hz and 7680x4320 at 30 Hz.

Colour space, depth and HDCP on demand
RGB 4:4:4 or YUV 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4:2:0, at 8, 10 or 12-bit, with HDCP set to off, 1.4 or 2.3. That combination is what isolates a fault to a single link in the chain.

One button, no laptop
A single FUNCTION button drives the LCD menu: short press cycles, one-second press selects. It powers up on Colour Bars at 1080p60, so it is useful before you touch anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this 8K30 or 8K60?
8K30. Lindy names it the HDMI 8K30 Signal Generator on its own product pages and in the manual, and the spec table gives a maximum of 7680 x 4320 at 30 Hz. Lindy Australia lists the same part number under an 8K60 title, which is where the confusion comes from. It also outputs 7680 x 2160 at 60 Hz and 3840 x 2160 up to 120 Hz.
Can it also analyse a signal?
No. There is no HDMI input on the 32696 — the manual describes the HDMI connector as an output port. To read an incoming signal, its resolution, colour space and bandwidth usage, you need the Lindy 32695 HDMI 8K60 Signal Analyzer.
What powers it?
USB-C at 5 V 1 A, about 2.3 W. Two USB-C to USB-A cables are supplied, so any laptop port, USB charger or power bank runs it. No mains charger is in the box.
Does it generate a test tone for audio?
Lindy documents no audio test-tone function for this model, on either the product page or in the manual. Treat it as a video test source. If you need to test an audio path, tell us what the system is and we will suggest the right instrument.
Singular Expert Insight
Owning a generator changes how a commissioning visit goes. Instead of borrowing the customer’s laptop and arguing about its graphics driver, you put a known-good 4K120 or 8K30 signal into the chain and the fault either appears or it does not. Thirteen patterns and sixteen timings is more than enough for real work, and selectable HDCP is the feature that finds the faults nobody else can explain. Order by part number: 32695 analyses, 32696 generates, and most installers end up carrying both. Keep it with the commercial displays and extenders it will be used on.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You commission or service HDMI systems and want a pocket source that outputs a known-good signal at a chosen resolution, colour space, bit depth and HDCP level without a laptop.

Skip it if

You need to measure an incoming signal rather than create one. That is the Lindy 32695 analyser, which has an input instead of an output.

Also consider

The Lindy 32695 HDMI 8K60 Signal Analyzer so you can test in both directions, and a USB power bank to run either unit where there is no socket.
