The Lindy 42679 is a complete USB 2.0 extender kit: a transmitter that plugs into the computer and a receiver with four USB-A ports at up to 60 metres away, joined by a standard Cat.5e or Cat.6 cable you run yourself. It is made for the keyboard, mouse, printer or camera that has to sit in another room from the PC, in a classroom, shop floor or meeting room. Despite the distributor’s description, article 42679 is the full kit, not the transmitter alone.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is USB 2.0: everything at the far end runs at up to 480 Mbps, so a USB 3.0 drive works but at USB 2.0 speed. The link cable is not included — you need one straight-through Cat.5e, Cat.6 or better cable up to 60 m; the RJ45 sockets are for that cable only, not for a network. The receiver needs its 5 V power supply (included) at the far end, so plan a mains socket there. The transmitter has a fixed 12 cm USB-A cable. The kit contains one USB hub, so it counts as one tier in the USB chain limit of seven.
