The LINDY 42844 connects RS-422 serial equipment to a computer with a USB-A port. It is used where industrial controllers, PLCs, measuring instruments, CCTV pan-tilt-zoom controllers, barcode systems or building-automation devices still talk over a differential RS-422 serial line, but the PC or laptop no longer has a serial port. The converter appears to the computer as a virtual COM port through the widely supported FTDI driver, so existing serial software keeps working. RS-422 uses balanced transmit and receive pairs, which carries data over much longer distances and with better noise immunity than RS-232. It runs at up to 3 Mbaud in full duplex, is powered from the USB port and has a 1 m cable with a DB9 male connector at the device end.

Compatibility — check before buying:
RS-422 only: it is not an RS-232 or RS-485 converter — for RS-485 buses choose the LINDY 42845. Check the pinout of your device against the LINDY assignment (1 TX−, 2 TX+, 3 RX+, 4 RX−, 5 GND, 6 RTS−, 7 RTS+, 8 CTS+, 9 CTS−); many RS-422 devices use terminal blocks or different DB9 wiring, so an adapter cable may be needed. The connector is DB9 male. Install the FTDI virtual COM port driver (Windows, macOS, Linux). Send us the device manual page with the serial pinout and we check it.
