Logitech C920s HD Pro Webcam — 1080p with Privacy Shutter
1080p at 30 fps78° fixed viewFive-element glass lensPrivacy shutter included
The C920s is the retail version of the webcam that most other webcams get compared against. A five-element glass lens with autofocus, 1080p at 30 fps, RightLight 2 light correction, two microphones and a privacy shutter that clips over the lens. It needs no drivers, and Logitech’s free Logi Tune software adds framing and image controls if you want them.
Compatibility — check before buying:
A few things worth knowing before you order. The 78 degree view is fixed and frames one person — there is no wider or narrower setting. Logitech publishes no zoom figure for this model; zoom is adjusted through Logi Tune rather than quoted as a number, so do not buy it expecting a stated zoom range. The privacy shutter is a clip-on cover, not a slider built into the body, so it can be lost. The cable is USB-A, 1.5 m and attached, at USB 2.0 class. There is no Windows Hello. And note the naming: the business-channel C920e looks like the upgrade but has no H.264 support at all, where this retail C920s does support the H.264 UVC extension — the two are the other way round from what the names suggest.
Best For
✓ Home offices and desks that want the benchmark 1080p picture
✓ One person on camera at a normal desk distance
✓ Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, OBS and streaming software
✓ Anyone replacing a soft built-in laptop camera
✓ Users who want free software control through Logi Tune
Key Features
Five-element glass lens
Not a plastic lens with a coating. The glass optics and full HD sensor are why this camera has stayed the reference point for desk video for so long.
Autofocus with RightLight 2
The camera refocuses as you move and meters for your face rather than the window behind it, which is the difference between a usable picture and a silhouette in an afternoon meeting.
Two microphones
One on either side of the camera, capturing in stereo, so a one-to-one call does not need a headset.
H.264 through the UVC extension
Logitech publishes a support note on using H.264 with this model in applications that support the UVC H.264 extension — unusual for a retail webcam and useful on older machines.

Singular Expert Insight
This is the camera that defined the category and it still holds up, mostly because of the glass. What has changed around it is naming: Logitech now sells a business C920e that is in some ways less capable, so read the specification rather than the suffix. For a single person at a desk who wants a reliable, sharp 1080p picture and nothing exotic, the C920s remains a straightforward recommendation. Its blanks are worth knowing — no published zoom, no published microphone range, no certifications — and its shutter is a clip. If you want a shutter built into the body, the C925e is the one. On a crowded desk, a USB hub saves the port.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want the benchmark 1080p desk picture with real glass optics and autofocus, at retail rather than through a business channel.
Skip it if
Skip it if you need a wider view, a stated zoom figure, a built-in slider shutter, or Windows Hello.
Also consider
Logitech C925e for hardware H.264 and a built-in shutter, or C930e for a 90 degree view with 4x zoom.
