Logitech Z623 2.1 THX Certified Speaker System — 200W

200W RMS, 400W peakTHX certified35 Hz from a 6.5 kg subwooferHeadphone output on the satellite

The Logitech Z623 is a three-piece 2.1 system that has stayed in catalogues for years on the strength of one number: 200W RMS, with 130W of it going to a 6.5 kg subwoofer that reaches down to 35 Hz. Two satellites take 35W each, and the right one carries the power switch, the volume and bass controls, a 3.5 mm auxiliary input and a headphone output. The whole system is THX certified. Part number 980-000403 is the EMEA order code.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The Z623 is an analogue system. There is no Bluetooth, no optical, no coaxial and no HDMI — sources connect on an RCA pair or on either of two 3.5 mm stereo inputs, one of which is on the right satellite for a quick connection. A phone needs a 3.5 mm cable or a Bluetooth receiver of its own. The satellites are passive and wire back to the subwoofer, which holds the amplifier and needs the mains socket, so plan the cable runs and the subwoofer position before you buy.

Best For

✓ Desks and rooms that want real bass from a PC
✓ Consoles and televisions with an analogue output
✓ Two analogue sources kept connected together
✓ Plugging headphones in without reaching behind a PC
✓ Rooms where a 303 mm wide subwoofer has a place
✓ Buyers who want physical controls and no app

Key Features

200W RMS, and most of it in the subwoofer
Logitech publishes 130W RMS for the subwoofer (into 8 ohms at 70 Hz) and 35W for each satellite (into 6 ohms at 1 kHz), for 200W total and 400W peak. The published system response starts at 35 Hz, which is where film and game effects actually live.

THX certification, not a marketing figure
THX certification means the system was measured against a defined performance standard rather than a number chosen by the manufacturer. On a 2.1 desktop system that is unusual and it is the main reason the Z623 has outlasted most of its contemporaries.

Controls and a headphone socket on the satellite
Power, volume and bass are on the right satellite rather than on the subwoofer, along with a 3.5 mm auxiliary input and a headphone output with its own volume control. Plugging in headphones or a phone does not mean reaching under the desk.

Two sources connected at once
An RCA pair and two 3.5 mm stereo inputs mean a computer, a console and a phone can share the system without swapping cables. Everything is analogue, which also means nothing depends on firmware or an app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stream from my phone?
Only with a cable or an external receiver. The Z623 has no Bluetooth. The simplest route is a 3.5 mm lead into the auxiliary input on the right satellite; alternatively a small Bluetooth receiver plugged into the RCA input covers it permanently.
Will it connect to my television?
Only if the television has an analogue output — RCA or a 3.5 mm headphone socket. There is no optical, no coaxial and no HDMI on the Z623. Tell us the television model and we will check which outputs it gives you.
How does it compare with the Logitech Z906?
The Z906 is the 5.1 system: six pieces, 500W RMS, a control console and on-board Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, with optical and coaxial inputs. The Z623 is 2.1, 200W, analogue only, and far simpler to place. Choose the Z623 for a desk, the Z906 for a room with cable runs to rear speakers.
Where should the subwoofer go?
Anywhere the supplied cables reach, but corners and hard walls increase output and can make the bass boomy. At 303 x 264 x 282 mm and 6.5 kg it usually lives under the desk. Use the bass control on the right satellite to trim it once it is in place.
Singular Expert Insight
The Z623 has survived in catalogues because it does one thing very well for a desk: it puts 200W RMS and a genuinely large subwoofer behind a computer, with THX certification behind the number, and it puts the controls and a headphone socket where your hand already is. It belongs to an analogue generation, though — no Bluetooth, no optical, no HDMI — so it suits a PC, a console with an analogue output and a phone on a cable rather than a modern television. If you want the same character with digital inputs, an Edifier CX7 or S350DB is the alternative; if you want true surround, the Z906 is the step up. Compare them in Speakers, with Gaming Headsets as the private option. Tell us your sources and desk and we will confirm.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want serious bass on a desk from a 200W THX-certified system, with the power, volume, bass and headphone socket on the satellite where you can reach them, and your sources are analogue.

Skip it if

You need Bluetooth or an optical input for a television — neither is fitted. Skip it too if you want genuine 5.1 surround, where the Logitech Z906 is the right system, or if a 303 mm wide subwoofer has nowhere to go.

Also consider

Logitech Z906 for THX certified 5.1 with optical, coaxial and Dolby Digital decoding. Edifier CX7 or S350DB for a 2.1 system with digital inputs. wavemaster MOODY BT if a desk control pod matters more than outright power.
