Manhattan 162296 — 4-Port USB 3.0 Type-A Hub
4 x USB-A at 5 Gbps45 mm square, 60 g15 cm integrated cable3-year manufacturer warranty
The Manhattan 162296 is a compact four-port USB 3.0 hub that takes one USB-A port on a computer and returns four, at up to 5 Gbps. The body is a 45 x 45 mm square just 14 mm thick, weighing 60 g, on a 15 cm integrated cable. Manhattan publishes overcurrent protection and a total output of up to 900 mA, and backs the hub with a three-year warranty — longer than most hubs in this class.
Compatibility — check before buying:
The plug is USB-A, so a laptop with only USB-C ports needs an adapter or a different model. The number that matters is the power budget: Manhattan rates the hub at up to 900 mA total, shared across all four ports rather than 900 mA each. Keyboards, mice, wireless receivers, licence dongles, flash drives and card readers all fit inside that comfortably. A bus-powered portable hard drive sits right at the edge and may drop out if anything else is drawing at the same time; two of them will not work. There is no video output, no Ethernet and no charging input, so the hub cannot power your laptop.
Best For
✓ Desktops and laptops that have run out of USB-A ports
✓ Keyboards, mice, wireless receivers and licence dongles
✓ Flash drives and card readers
✓ A small square hub that sits flat on a desk
✓ Travel — 45 mm square with a short captive cable
✓ Buyers who want a three-year term on an accessory
Key Features
Four ports from one
The straightforward fix for a machine with two USB ports and four things to plug in. No drivers, no configuration, no software.
5 Gbps SuperSpeed
USB 3.0 speeds on all four sockets, backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices at their own rates. The 5 Gbps is shared, so one drive at a time gets the full amount.
Overcurrent protection
Manhattan builds in overcurrent protection, so a faulty peripheral or a shorted cable trips the hub rather than the computer’s USB controller.
A three-year warranty
Manhattan publishes a three-year term on this hub. It does not state a geographic scope, so terms vary by region — we handle the first year directly.

Singular Expert Insight
Manhattan is unusually straight about the figure that decides whether a bus-powered hub will annoy you: up to 900 mA shared across four ports. That draws a clear line — everything that sips power works, anything that spins does not. Buy it for flash drives, receivers, keyboards and card readers, and leave hard drives to a powered hub. The square 45 mm body is the other reason people choose it: it sits flat and stays put instead of being dragged around by four cables. If the real need is a monitor, a network socket and charging from one cable, that is a docking station rather than any hub.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You need four USB-A sockets from a USB-A machine for low-draw devices, in a small square hub that stays flat on the desk and carries a three-year term.
Skip it if
Skip it if you will run bus-powered hard drives, if your laptop only has USB-C, or if you need video, Ethernet or laptop charging from the same cable.
Also consider
A self-powered hub with its own mains adapter for external drives, or a USB-C hub if your computer has no USB-A port.
