MediaRange MR919 256 GB — Sliding USB 3.2 Gen 1 Drive

256 GB100 MB/s read30 MB/s writeKey hanger included

The MediaRange MR919 is a 256 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive in an aluminium and ABS body, with a push-and-slide housing instead of a cap and a nylon key hanger in the box. MediaRange publishes both speeds for this exact article — up to 100 MB/s read and 30 MB/s write — which is more than most drives at this price bother to do.

Compatibility — check before buying:
USB Type-A only, so a phone or a USB-C-only laptop needs an adapter and none is supplied. The drive arrives pre-formatted exFAT, which handles files larger than 4 GB out of the box and is read and written by Windows, macOS and Linux — no reformatting needed unless your device specifically wants FAT32. One limit worth noting: MediaRange rates the drive for 0 to 45 °C in operation, a narrower window than most, so a closed car in a Cyprus August is outside it. Storage is rated −10 to 60 °C.

Best For

✓ Carrying a large photo or document library
✓ A keyring drive with real capacity
✓ Moving project files between office machines
✓ Backing up a documents folder without cloud accounts
✓ Anyone who wants both speeds published before buying
✓ Everyday use where a cap would end up lost

Key Features

Both speeds published, per article
MediaRange states up to 100 MB/s read and 30 MB/s write on the product page for MR919 itself, not as a family average. A 4 GB video file writes in a little over two minutes and reads back in about forty seconds.

Push-and-slide housing
The connector slides inside the housing rather than hiding under a cap. Nothing to lose, nothing to break off, and the mechanism is the part that keeps the contacts clean in a pocket or a bag.

Aluminium body with a key hanger
The shell is aluminium with ABS plastic, and MediaRange includes a nylon key hanger in the pack. At roughly 19 x 7 x 56 mm and 9 g it sits on keys without weighing them down.

exFAT out of the box
Pre-formatted exFAT means large video files copy straight across with no 4 GB limit and no reformatting step. It is plug and play on Windows, macOS and Linux, with no software to install.

Warranty
Warranty 1-Year Warranty (Singular)
Manufacturer Term MediaRange publishes no term in years. Its stated policy is free replacement of devices that fail through material or manufacturing faults, excluding misuse, accidents and improper storage, with no liability for data loss. Singular’s direct warranty is 1 year; beyond that we assist you with the manufacturer’s process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the MediaRange 256 GB High Performance drive?
No, and they look alike on a listing because both are 256 GB and both are silver and black. The High Performance article MR1903 is rated at 300 MB/s read and 200 MB/s write, is 59 x 12 x 7 mm, and uses a separate cap. The MR919 here is 100 / 30 MB/s with a sliding housing. If speed is the reason you are buying, check the article number.
Do I need to reformat it?
Not for normal use. It arrives exFAT, which every current Windows, macOS and Linux system reads and writes, and which has no 4 GB file size limit. Some older TVs, car stereos and camera bodies only accept FAT32 — if that is your target device, reformat before use and remember the 4 GB per-file cap that comes with it.
How long does it take to fill 256 GB?
At the published 30 MB/s write, around two and a half hours from empty. Reading it back at 100 MB/s takes about three quarters of an hour. For a drive you load with a library and then carry, that is a comfortable balance.
What warranty do I get?
One year directly from Singular. MediaRange itself does not publish a number of years for this article — its policy promises free replacement of drives that fail through material or manufacturing faults. We handle that process for you rather than sending you to a form.
Singular Expert Insight
MediaRange is not a name that sells itself, so the sensible way to judge the MR919 is on what it publishes. Both speeds are on the article page rather than hidden in a catalogue, the temperature range is stated, the key hanger is in the box, and the drive arrives exFAT so large files work immediately. At 100 MB/s read and 30 MB/s write it sits comfortably in the middle: quicker than the cheap 30 MB/s drives, well behind the 200 MB/s metal sticks, and priced accordingly. Two things to watch. The 0 to 45 °C operating range is narrower than most, which matters if the drive lives in a car. And MediaRange’s own High Performance article at the same capacity, MR1903, is three times faster at 300 / 200 MB/s and looks almost identical in a photograph — if the speed is what you are paying for, order by article number, not by picture.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want 256 GB with both speeds actually published, a capless sliding body and a key hanger in the box, and 100 MB/s read covers what you move. exFAT out of the box suits you.

Skip it if

You need 200 MB/s or more — MediaRange’s own MR1903 is the faster article. Skip it too if the drive will live in a hot car, if you need USB-C, or if you want a warranty stated in years.

Also consider

MediaRange MR1903 256 GB for 300 MB/s read and 200 MB/s write. Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G3 256 GB for an all-metal capless drive at 220 / 100 MB/s. Verbatim V3 256 GB for a slider at 120 / 25 MB/s.
