MediaRange MR931-2 16 GB — USB-A and Micro-USB, for Older Android Phones
16 GBUSB 2.0USB-A + micro-USB (OTG)17 MB/s read / 6 MB/s write
The MediaRange MR931-2 is a 16 GB USB 2.0 combo drive with a full-size USB-A plug at one end and a micro-USB OTG plug at the other, in an aluminium swivel housing. It was built for the generation of Android phones and tablets that used micro-USB ports. MediaRange publishes read speeds of up to 17 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6 MB/s. It measures 70.5 x 19.5 x 11.6 mm and weighs about 17 g.
Compatibility — check before buying:
???? The small connector on this drive is micro-USB, not USB-C. It will not fit an iPhone, and it will not fit any Android phone or tablet made in the last several years — those use USB-C. No adapter is supplied. Buy this only if the device you want to plug into genuinely has a micro-USB port and supports USB On-The-Go. MediaRange’s USB-C combo drives are a completely different series, numbered
MR935 upwards, and any of those will fit a modern phone. The micro-USB series is just three items: MR930-2 (8 GB), MR931-2 (16 GB) and MR932-2 (32 GB), and all three are published at the same 17 / 6 MB/s — so the larger sizes are not faster, only bigger. The “-2” here does not mean a two-pack — it is simply part of the article number, and all three are single drives. Be careful, though: elsewhere in MediaRange’s range that same suffix does mean a multipack, so it is not a reliable rule. Note also the operating range: 0 to 45 °C, and that the drive arrives formatted FAT32, which refuses any single file larger than 4 GB.Best For
✓ Older Android phones and tablets that still have a micro-USB port
✓ Devices such as older tablets, e-readers or dashcams with micro-USB and OTG support
✓ Freeing space on a micro-USB phone without a cloud account
✓ Moving photographs off a legacy handset before retiring it
✓ Machines with USB-A ports at the other end
✓ Anyone replacing a drive that already works with their micro-USB device
Key Features
Two plugs, one body
USB-A at one end, micro-USB at the other, both protected by the swivel housing. No adapter, no cable, nothing extra to carry.
Aluminium swivel housing
Metal and ABS rather than all plastic, with a swivel cap that cannot be lost. At 17 g it is heavier than most sticks, which is the price of the metal.
17 MB/s read, 6 MB/s write
MediaRange publishes both figures, and publishes the same pair at 8, 16 and 32 GB — so this smaller drive is not the slow one of the family.
Android on the list
MediaRange lists Android alongside Windows, macOS and Linux for this model specifically, because the micro-USB end is what makes phone use possible.

Singular Expert Insight
This drive exists for one job: bridging a micro-USB Android device and a computer. If that is your situation it does it in a solid aluminium body with nothing to lose. If it is not your situation, this is the wrong product and the listing name will not warn you — the word people notice is “micro”, and it refers to the plug, not to the size of the drive. Micro-USB has been superseded by USB-C on essentially every phone sold in recent years, so check the port before you order. If your phone is USB-C, the dual-ended drives in our USB flash drives range are what you want and we will point you at one. For large working files rather than files you carry, an external SSD is the right class of product.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Your phone, tablet or device has a micro-USB port and supports USB On-The-Go, and you want a metal-bodied drive that bridges it to a computer.
Skip it if
Your phone is USB-C or an iPhone — this connector will not fit and no adapter is included. Or you need more than 16 GB.
Also consider
MediaRange MR935 and upwards if your phone is USB-C. MR932-2 for 32 GB at the same speeds. Any USB-A only drive if no phone is involved.
