MediaRange MR971 — 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive with Sliding Mechanism, Blue/White

8 GB capacityUSB 2.0 Type-APush & slide, no cap to loseColour: Blue/White

The MediaRange MR971 is a 8 GB USB 2.0 flash drive in a two-tone blue/white ABS body with a push-and-slide mechanism: the plug retracts into the housing, so there is no cap to lose. It measures 56 x 21 x 9 mm and weighs about 9 g, and MediaRange sells it under part number MR971 and EAN 4260283118175. MediaRange does not publish a speed figure for this 8 GB size — its own sheet shows the 32 GB numbers by mistake — so we quote none; expect ordinary USB 2.0 performance that suits documents, photos and music rather than video. The colour makes it easy to tell apart in a drawer of sticks: MediaRange sells the series in red/white (4 GB), blue/white (8 GB) and yellow/white (16 GB). Tell us what you plan to carry and we will confirm the size is right.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The plug is USB Type-A. It works in any USB-A port and runs in USB 3.x ports at USB 2.0 speed; it does NOT fit a phone or a USB-C-only laptop without a USB-C to USB-A adapter. It ships FAT32 pre-formatted, which every TV, car radio and camera reads, but FAT32 limits a single file to 4 GB — reformat to exFAT if you need to store a larger single file. MediaRange publishes no key ring or lanyard for this series. Note that colour and capacity go together: the blue/white drive is the 8 GB one, so do not order by colour alone if you need a different size.

Best For

✓ Handing documents and presentations to colleagues or clients
✓ Colour-coded sticks for a small office or classroom
✓ Printing or scanning to USB on office machines
✓ Photos and music on a TV, car stereo or media player
✓ Driver, BIOS and recovery kits
✓ Anyone who keeps losing caps

Key Features

Push and slide, nothing to lose
Press the slider and the USB plug comes out; push it back and the plug is protected. No cap, no cover, no lost parts — and the blue/white body is easy to spot.

Plain USB 2.0 for everyday files
Made for documents, photos and music rather than video. MediaRange publishes no speed for this size, so we do not quote one — ask us if the speed matters for your use.

Plug and play everywhere
FAT32 pre-formatted, no driver, no software. MediaRange lists Windows, macOS and Linux, and the stick also works in TVs, car radios and printers that read USB drives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the MR971 fast enough for video?
It is a USB 2.0 documents-and-photos stick; MediaRange publishes no speed for this size. For regular video work choose a USB 3.2 Gen 1 drive.
Does it work with a phone or a USB-C laptop?
Only through a USB-C to USB-A adapter. If your devices are USB-C only, ask us for a USB-C or dual-plug drive instead.
Can I get the same colour in another capacity?
No — MediaRange ties colour to capacity in this series: red/white is 4 GB, blue/white 8 GB, yellow/white 16 GB.
What is in the box?
The drive on a blister card. No lanyard, no cable and no software — nothing else is needed.
Singular Expert Insight

The sliding series is MediaRange’s colourful alternative to its silver-and-black swivel sticks (MR907 to MR913): same USB 2.0 class, plastic instead of aluminium, and a colour per size. The 8 GB MR971 is the middle size and a sensible hand-out drive; for photos step up to the 16 GB MR972. If speed matters more than colour, the swivel MR910 publishes 17 / 6 MB/s at 16 GB. Tell us the use and we will steer you.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want a cheap, colour-coded 8 GB stick with no cap to lose for documents, photos, printer jobs or hand-outs.

Skip it if

You move video or multi-gigabyte files often, or your devices are USB-C only. Also skip it if you need a specific colour in a different capacity — they are fixed pairs.

Also consider

The MR972 16 GB yellow/white for photos, the MR970 4 GB red/white for hand-outs, or the swivel MR908 8 GB for a metal body with a published 17 / 4 MB/s.
