PLANET MGB-TSX — Industrial Gigabit SX SFP, 550 m
1 Gbps1000BASE-SXUp to 550 m−40 to 85 °C
The PLANET MGB-TSX is an industrial Gigabit SFP transceiver for multimode fibre: 1000BASE-SX at 850 nm over a dual LC connection, up to 550 m, with digital diagnostics. The T marks PLANET’s wide-temperature version, rated from −40 to 85 °C, for industrial switches in cabinets, factories and roadside enclosures. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry multimode fibre, and the module plus a short LC patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It needs multimode fibre and an 850 nm SX module at the far end. It will not link to PLANET’s MGB-SX2, which is also labelled 1000BASE-SX but works at 1310 nm, and it will not run on single-mode fibre (for that, see MGB-TLX). For indoor racks, the standard MGB-SX (0 to 60 °C) has the same optics. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Send us your switch model and the cable run and we check it before you order.
Best For
✓ PLANET industrial switches
✓ Cabinets and plant rooms
✓ Short multimode runs up to 550 m
✓ Roadside and outdoor enclosures
✓ Links that need digital diagnostics
✓ Replacing a failed MGB-TSX
Key Features
Industrial rating
Rated −40 to 85 °C, well beyond the 0 to 60 °C of PLANET’s standard MGB-SX.
Multimode fibre, short reach
Built for the short runs inside a building or data room over multimode fibre. Reach depends on the fibre grade — older 62.5 µm OM1 fibre reaches less than 50 µm OM2 or better, so check what is actually in your walls before you plan a link.
Monitoring you can read
Digital diagnostics (DDM) let the host report temperature, laser power and received light, so a dirty connector or a failing link shows up before users call.
Hot-swappable
Modules plug into a live port without shutting the switch down, so a link can be added or replaced during working hours. Seat it until it clicks and use the latch to remove it.

Frequently Asked Questions
MGB-TSX or MGB-SX?
Both are PLANET 1000BASE-SX modules at 850 nm up to 550 m with DDM. The MGB-SX is rated 0 to 60 °C; the MGB-TSX is the industrial version rated −40 to 85 °C.
Will it link to an MGB-SX2?
No. The MGB-SX2 uses 1310 nm on multimode fibre for 2 km. An MGB-TSX needs an 850 nm SX module at the far end.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get 1 module. The patch cord for the Dual LC/UPC connector, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
PLANET builds the module to the SFP MSA standard and does not code it for another brand, so switches that lock out third-party optics, such as many Cisco and HPE/Aruba models, may refuse it — send us the model and we check it.
Singular Expert Insight
We fit the MGB-TSX in PLANET industrial switches and any multimode link that ends in an unheated or sun-exposed cabinet. For single-mode runs in the same conditions, the MGB-TLX is the industrial LX sibling. Every order is backed by Singular’s local support in Cyprus — if a link will not come up, send us the port status and we help you find out whether it is the module, the cable or the configuration. Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You need a 1G multimode link up to 550 m in a location with wide temperature swings.
Skip it if
Your fibre is single-mode, the far end is a 1310 nm module, or both ends sit in heated rooms.
Also consider
PLANET MGB-TLX for industrial single-mode links.
