Samsung declares a yield of 10,000 pages in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752. The standard-yield version of the same cartridge, the MLT-D2082S, is rated at 4,000 pages — roughly two and a half times less toner for a price that is rarely two and a half times lower.

Samsung’s own datasheet for the SCX-5635FN states the yield and names the standard. ISO/IEC 19752 uses a defined test page and a continuous-print methodology — it is not expressed as “5% coverage”, and listings that pair the two are mixing an ISO figure with the older pre-ISO convention.
High yield is usually the cheaper option per page
The L cartridge holds two and a half times the toner of the S. Unless your printer sits nearly idle, the cost per page is lower and you handle the machine less often — which on a device of this age is worth something on its own.
Original Samsung, not compatible
This is the genuine cartridge under Samsung’s own order code. Most surviving stock advertised under these part numbers is remanufactured or compatible; if the distinction matters to you, it matters here more than on a current-generation printer.

Most stock still advertised under these part numbers is compatible or remanufactured rather than original, and the region matters too: the European /ELS machines and the North American /XAA machines take different cartridges under confusingly similar numbers.
